    Dive Opportunities around Destin

Ohonu, I'll keep that in mind. No other divers going with me far as I know. So a buddy might be just the thing. Jetties sound interesting if my schedule will fit the tides.

    Dive Opportunities around Destin

I'll be down for Business/pleasure from about Nov 4-9, 2010. Always looking for a dive opportunity. I've heard of the Jetties, but tell me more. Not just about the Jetties, but other local salt water or fresh possibilities. Suggest Dive operators / shops to use please. See you there...

    Stroke=Divemaster completion delay

Darcey: only stumbled across your post today. As I read through the thread I was getting pretty anxious for you. So glad to see you are getting back in the water now. I had never realized that one could be injured by chiropractic manipulation until I was reading up on it after encountering a...

    Roatan Tank Rentals?

That was our observation when we were there a couple of summers ago. They want you using the dive operations and getting on the boats it seems. We spent a day off from boat diving at West Bay Beach and I sure would have liked to have had a tank with me.

    Anyone have Dish Network?

My daughter and her husband have Dish. The only complaint seems to be the loss of signal during bad weather. Here in Tennessee we are very tornado prone and you lose the ability to get warnings via the TV.

    Smelly neoprene

I sort of like the way neoprene smells because it reminds me of pleasant times and exotic locations. The same way I used to like the smell of fixer when I had the photo darkroom hobby. I really like the fit and warmth of my Bare 5/4 fullsuit, but after wearing it about 3 times it still...

    Labeling weights

Mine are color coded mesh bags. Black for 1 pound, Grey for 2, red for 3. In your case find someone that has a sewing machine to sew a fabric tag onto the bag that you can write on with a fabric marker. I can't see fabric paint staying on that open mesh very well.

Mask clearing-finding out the hard way

I think Mattboy's suggestion is a very good one. It really puts a load on an already anxious diver/student to know that they will have to remove the mask AND breath through a regulator with their nose uncovered. Entering the water with snorkel or reg and no mask on in water shallow enough to...

    Does Atomic Z2/Z2x squeal?

Do you mean underwater? My ST -1 brays like a jackass out of water, but U/W it's as quiet as any.

Kudos to DAN! (Not really a dive incident though)

Jersey, If your dentist has Nitrous Oxide, then he has oxygen since those two are always mixed when patients are getting the N2O. The attraction of the DAN kit was twofold. For one, my setup for nitrous does not allow for positive pressure O2 delivery. You could not ventilate a patient that...

Kudos to DAN! (Not really a dive incident though)

Kudos to DAN. I am a diver and a dentist. I keep the DAN emergency oxygen unit in my office for use during the weekdays and take it with me diving. In 20+ years as a professional I have never once had to administer emergency oxygen... till two days ago. The patient had not even been treated...

    Diver dies in Islamorada

I was down there during that week. Winds and seas were high, borderline brutal. I spent most of Monday the 12th puking off the stern of a dive boat instead of diving off one. Many divers and dive operations canceled during that week. I wanted to do the Spiegel Grove on the 16th but decided...

    Trainer killed at Seaworld

Article I read outlined several attacks on trainers at wildlife parks. Including one fool that slipped into the park after hours and ended up in the orca pool and his survivors wanted to sue the park. Mess with predators, even "trained" ones, and eventually your gonna get...

    MTSS (Nashville/Franklin, TN) has closed

I got an email just yesterday ( 12-15-09) about another sale at MTSS to get rid of their remaining stock. They'll be open Saturday, Dec 19. I thought that Rick would reduce prices more, but it looks like everything is still 30% off with the exception of some wet suits. Let me see if I can...

    MTSS (Nashville/Franklin, TN) has closed

Lots of fins. Some scubapro and henderson wet suits. Some Scubapro and SeaQuest BC's. Lots of odds ands ends accessories like lanyards, slates, orings, silicone spray. Not but a few regs and computers. I could have been tempted into buying a reg upgrade if he had any. He had several Suunto...

    MTSS (Nashville/Franklin, TN) has closed

As of a couple of weeks ago MTSS (Middle Tennessee Scuba and Swim) closed their doors. They had one of the nicest physical facilities around and a great staff for gear, equipment maintenance, training and leading dive trips. They will be missed. A victim of the economy, I suppose.

    Tattoo advice

I'm going to be the one that says, "Don't do it". Back when I wore huge bell bottomed blue jeans it was cool -- then it became uncool and I changed my pants. Back when I wore my hair in a shag type style, it was cool. When it became uncool, I got it cut. With tats.... forever. Celebrate...
