Dacor / Mares Trade Up Program

Wait,.. Dacor has a trade up program? I have an old BC of theirs that is in good condition. I wonder if they'll let me trade that in.

looking for dive op in Puerto Rico

dbo, That's true about Taino using the beach as a landing area. I forgot about that. Now that I am remembering that detail, you are probably right. They wouldn't be the best choice for Christine. It's too bad about your trip to Desecho falling through. I really enjoyed those dives. Never tried...

Mask Purchase LDS VS Online question (recycled more specifically)

I know that I'm gonna get flamed for this,... but if you can find the same mask online for a better price than what they have in your LDS, then by all means, go for online. Of course online merchants have a host of other concerns that you don't deal with at your LDS, like shipping, difficult...

Looking for a Pool in Monterey for practice

Can anyone help me find a pool in the Monterey area that I can practice in? I don't mind paying a small fee, but I just want to take my time learning my drysuit without getting in anyone's way. BTW,.. it should be at least 12 feet deep if possible. Thanks!

    Question about proper weighting

If you switched to a steel tank you probably wouldn't need to add anymore weight, but that's just because the steel weighs more and is making up for the lead weight you don't want to carry. To answer your question though,.. yes it does sound like a lot of weight, but I'm gathering that your...

    Cuff Dump Question

I checked with Otter Bay as they were recomended by another fellow diver, but they do not sell or install cuff dumps because they do not recomend them in the first place. I think that's an odd practice, buy hey,.. it's their buisness. Currently I'm planning on replacing my shoulder dump with a...

    Cuff Dump Question

Just a quick request for advice. I was out learning how to use my new drysuit and my instructor didn't like the shoulder dump that I had (non-adjustable, push-to-dump). He strongly reccomended that I get a cuff dump installed before I do another dive, or at least get a new shoulder dump...

    Diver's Insurance

Most health/life insurance have restrictions on what they will cover, especially as it relates to "high risk behavior" like diving. Some 'regular' life insurance policies won't pay out in the event that you die as a result of diving because the policy doesn't cover diving related accidents. Life...

looking for dive op in Puerto Rico

I've dove a handful of dives in PR and of the best I would recomend Desecheo Island. There's a great outfit based out of Rinco called Taino Divers that I would recomend for experienced or intermediate divers, but they didn't handle our newbie friends very well. All in all a good outfit. I...

    My Camelbak D.I.Y...Combating dry mouth

Uhhhh LVX,.. Apparently you're an instructor,.. you should know the answer to that one. The only thing you should need to worry pressure affecting is the excess air in the bag (if any).

    Spiegel Grove Incident

Funny, my regular buddy dives with a Zeagle BC (Ranger, I beleive) which has two tank straps. My Dacor BC only has one. While I like his BC better in general, about 1 in every 5 dives his tank slips out (usually just before getting into the water). Mine has never had that problem. Point is...

    Oops

Doesn't anyone watch Mythbusters? They blew this myth out of the water (no pun intended). There is no way that this could have happened. - Furthermore I can't beleive people are still talking about it.

    Pt. Lobos or Monterey Bay?

I would say that for anyone that only has one day to dive Monterey should definitely hit Point Lobos, however they should do it with someone who is familiar with the area. The only reason I would say that is so that you can get to see as much as possible, or rather the best areas instead of...

    DPV Information

Ashley, Your comment about Costco having Seadoo Scooters piqued my curiosity so I went on their site. I looked everywhere, but I didn't see the Seadoo model on there. The closest thing that they have is a "Hawk" DPV, but it's only rated to 65' (supposedly tested to 98'). I'm still thinking of...

    Predive accident

That's funny,.. well not really,.. but I was out kayaking at Lovers Point and watching a dive boat was coming south. All of a sudden the boat took a pretty good hit from the right and kinda leapt out out the water for a second. I don't know if it was you guys, but I remember thinking that...

Mask Defogger used by the Pacific Whale Foundation

Great. Hope it works as well for you as it does for me. Put a dab on, rub it around and rinse out. Just remember,.. it's the same principle as spit... you don't need to see or feel it on the glass to know that it will work. (I dove once after starting to use J&J and neglected to rinse out my...

Mask Defogger used by the Pacific Whale Foundation

I don't know, but was it soapy? I use Johnsons & Johnsons "no more tears" Baby Shampoo and it works great. I saw a DM in Puerto Rico using it and have used it ever since. The bucket you saw could have had J&J diluted in it, but I don't know. I put it on full strength (just a drop), smear it...

Diver Death at Breakwater (Monterey) at 9pm 06/27/06

When the last accident before this one? I'm not sure. Here are more details that I just found: Preliminary reports indicate that he was a Hong Kong visitor here on buisness. The accident happenened around 9pm when the instructor lost sight of him. Apparently his last dive was about 10 years...

    Honeymoon Help

I can't say anything about Roatan, but when I was planning my honeymoon, I was really trying for Turks & Caicos. Unfortunately/fortunately a much better (less expensive) offer took us to Cancun. We enjoyed it though.
