    An issue with mask clearing...

Swallow before your breath, dont swallow as you breath but swallow just before you do. Its is not possible to breath in through your nose and swallow at the same time so it may help you to close nose before your next breath.

    Buoyancy by DAN

I stand corrected and have edited accordingly knotical. I was indeed refering to Lamont Granquists information. I got the link from an earlier TsandM post in another thread and I mistakenly assumed that it was provided by the person TsandM said to PM for the information. I have also read...

    differences between naui and padi

Dam! I wonder how true Thalassamanias analogies are? At the very least the image is intriguing. Having gone through PADI open water I would agree with the statements made about the structure and rigidity of the program. As far as NAUI goes, I guess the real problem would be making sure you...

    What wasn't covered well enough...

It will be interesting to see how this pans out over time. My thought is that as the number of divers increase and the standards and class times decrease, the number of accidents will continue to increase. At some point I would think agencies that proclaim themselves educators/trainers are...

    What wasn't covered well enough...

TsandM I got the handout and have read it many times carefully because of another thread on this board, thanks again it is very informative. I definately see what you mean in terms of gas management being more than just bottom time. I sorta lumped that into OOA scenarios but its definately a...

    What wasn't covered well enough...

Interesting responses, I am curious as to why gas management is listed as such an issue? IMO this is one issue that would seem to be a practice issue more than the others? I mean if I understand what people are saying your really just concerned with how lack of management affects length of...

    Too much Weight

Thanks for all the input all. I spent quite a bit of time fiddling with my weights I have 5 to 1 lb bags and have tried multiple combinations. I currently carry 10lbs 5 each side in the pockets on my back close to my tank. I carry another 12lbs in each detachable integrated bcd pouch and the...

    Too much Weight

I have questions regarding the weight issues I have read on the forum. I have heard weight talked about almost as much as bouyancy. My concern is in its actual relevance to your skill as a diver and your safety while diving. The 10% rule would indicate that I should be diving with 24.5 lbs...

    Advice on oceanic gear

Oceanic makes a good product I am using one of thier BCDs. Point of consideration for your purchase. The linked selection doesnt contain a Dive Computer which you will NEED. Additionally two points about the oceanic integrated bcd, the pockets will hold 10 pounds each side only (if your...

    What wasn't covered well enough...

Thought I would post a question to all here, to see what everyone else thinks are skill sets that werent covered well enough through AOW training (regardless of your certifying agency). Just to see what things everyone else thinks should have been more of concern up front as they have continued...

    Electonic Log Books Not Accepted!

Umm quick question, you said they were a PADI shop and that you had your C-Card. Arent all PADI shops required to accept C-Cards as proof of cert?

Padi Deep Dive Speciality Course - Looking for advice!

I have actually seen several shops in my area who have started the buy from us or you will pay more for training. It is sort of implied that you get a marginal discount for purchasing your gear from them. I dont actually have a problem as long as it is up front as opposed to implied but not...

    Where the buck stops...

No intent to "Diss" you as a more experienced diver, NW. Severe intent in attempting to keep this discussion on the article not on imagination. Imagination can produce anything, with any result. Discussing the theoretical possibilities of 100s of dive accident scenarioes doesnt help the...

    Where the buck stops...

For the record I have dismissed oxtox, plumeting to your death from bcd failure, no spg, and even CYA because within the confines of the article ONCE AGAIN they dont apply. You most probably will not know why a diver is out of air when he signals for you to aid him, and frankly at that point...

    Where the buck stops...

Lets see in the last two pages we have at least one lawyer possibly more indicating we should seek council before providing assistance, we have some more straw men, and omg we have the rescue diver again. You know the more I hear from you guys the less I like you. I mean do any of you actually...
