    Deep Stops - Suunto Cobra

One thing I dislike about the deep stops mode on my D9 is that when DS is switched on the 3 minute safety stop timer is deactivated. I think Suunto may intend for the Deep Stops to replace the 3 minute safety stop at 5 meters. I'd do both - and for this reason I keep DS switched off. dp

    Cairns liveaboard

Another factor to consider is the number of students on board each boat. Most of the day boats cater to DSD (try dives) and put a lot of pressure on passengers to try diving. The mid-level boats which offer 2-3 day trips often have a significant number (more than half) of students on one...

    REVIEW: CREE MC-E Diving Light

re: protected cells... Bad things happen to Lithium cells when you: a. Short them out b. Over charge them c. Drain them to empty To prevent this from happening they make a small circuit board which sits on top of the battery (and is shrink-wrapped to the top or bottom) which protects it from a...

Type of LED in the UK 8C eLed Plus

The ones dealextreme sells are the B bin, not c-bin so you won't get 900 lumen. However, to get the full brightness you have to drive them at 2.8 amps. That being said the modified torch is monster bright. Brightest thing I've ever seen - hands down. I'm using the stock UK circuitry which...

Type of LED in the UK 8C eLed Plus

I swapped both LED's out for two 900 lumen P7's from Dealextreme. The resulting beam is amazing. The reflector is a little too small for the P7's but you don't notice it much underwater. Well worth the $40 investment.

    Sydney in January - April

Hi Jason. There are heaps of great dives to do in and around Sydney. I work for a dive shop called Abyss (Scuba Lessons & Dive Gear - Abyss Scuba Diving PADI IDC Sydney) which offers free DM led double shore dives every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. A couple of shops offer boat dives in and...

    Suunto D4's 50%RGBM Model?

50% RGBM mode does not give you more bottom time... exactly. RGBM punishes you by shortening your bottom time if you do one of several naughty things during a dive including, reverse profile, deco, going up to fast or have too short of a surface interval. RGBM 50% mode reduces the imposed...

Suunto D9 - switch gas mixture

Mix 1 is always your "Back gas" attached to your pressure transmitter. On the surface you can program Mix 2 and 3 but can not "switch" to them until you're underwater. Remember your pressure transmitter only works with Mix 1. When diving Nitrox I normally set up Mix 1 to be my back gas...

New Princeton Tec Miniwave versus UK C4 eled thread

Hi Ed. One thing to consider with lights in low vis situations is the amount of back-scatter. Think about driving in fog with your high beams on... the light will illuminate the cloud of crap in front of you. The light will work great for viewing things close up, but not have the focus to cut...

New Princeton Tec Miniwave versus UK C4 eled thread

Princeton Tec torches do not use any kind of regulation... The LED's are connected directly to the batteries- 3 3 watt LED's connected in series. Its important to understand how LED's work: their brightness is controlled by the CURRENT running through them -- NOT the voltage (as in a regular...

    Pro-Dive Cairns

Its an ok operation. The boat is great, but be prepared for heaps of beginners. More than half of the 20+ people on the boat will be on one course or another. The reefs are rather average and by no means representative of the Great Barrier Reef. In Aus you tend to get what you pay for...

Apeks XTX50 adjustable cracking control question

Hi Aoo, Please take the comments above with a grain of salt - I do not believe that the information is correct. I had a problem with a newly serviced ATX40 occy free-flowing and turning the knob (where the cracking resistance knob on the ATX50 is) with a hex key did not fix the problem...

    Attenuated (50%) RGBM

As you know Suunto computers track a number of factors in addition to how long you are underwater. When you exit the water you will notice the diver alert symbol, an exclamation point (!) inside a triangle. This means that the computer strongly recommends that you extend your surface interval...

    Should I not buy a suunto d9?

You can tell if a D9 has had the upgrade by connecting it to your PC with the included cable. If the software version is 1.2.15 or above it is the latest (updated) version. Updated computers will either be above the recall serial number range, have a white dot that may wipe off (updated at a...

    D9 Battery Change?

Hi all, Can anyone detail the procedure to change the battery in a D9 yourself? The back of the watch fits a standard three point adjustable watch case opener. I suspect the outer ring unscrews to reveal the metal plate beneath. Once this plate is pried up (gently) there should be an...
