For divers with 100+ dives - do you have a "happy place"?

The best place and most $$$ I've ever spent but I am going back - The Galapagos Islands. Hammerhead schools over you and even with a point & shoot (shutter lag) I got terrific pictures. Then the whale sharks, they are HUGE. There's also the Galapagos sharks, the silky sharks, etc, etc. And...

    Suit for a tall girl

Good luck. I was 5'11 3/4 when I started diving. I finally am comfortable in an off the shelf DUI Dry suit. I just added 4" to the length and 2" to the arms. That was no charge. Another choice is Monterey Bay wetsuits. They could make a custom suit. Or she can get a stock wet suit and...

    Regulator Service

I haven't seen a warranty that covers servicing of your reg. As a matter of fact, any warranty I've seen requires annual servicing to keep the warranty in effect. On the other hand, because the shop wouldn't give you the parts they replaced, that raises a red flag for me too. My shop...

    sea-sickness remedy?

I don't use the meds. A long time ago I found out that it was protein that made me sick. That means the egg mcmuffin you picked up on the trip to the dive boat and the cream in your coffee. Before I go out I only eat plain carbs. Dry toast, plain tea (sorry - don't like coffee :) ) or dry...

Need tips: How to handle a Big camera setup underwater

I've only been diving with my housed DSLR (Nikon D80) in the Red Sea. That was a bathtub. Thanks for all the info about more robust diving. I like the positioning the strobes to form a "V" and put your hands in it. I also never go down with just holding my camera. I realize I need a more...

Live Aboard v. Land Based Diving in Palau

It depends on how much you want to dive. It also depends on a S/O. If you are by yourself and want to dive, dive, dive and then more diving, I'd do the boat. If you want to see something besides a boat for 7 days or so, then the land based diving will do.

    How would you spend $5000?

Go back to the Galapagos Islands - this time for 10 days. But I need to probably add $2K to that amount to do it.

    Diving with back problems?

I have the same injury plus a "bubble" on L3-L4. But I do not have any nerve involvment. On the airplane, tip your pelvis forward so you are sitting on the back of your butt. I sit that way all the time. That will protect the area. Lumbar support is NOT good. It arches your back. I...

Scared to death of encountering a shark while diving

Hi Courtney - woman to woman, #1 fear limits you, please please get over it so you can enjoy some of the best diving in the world. The sharks are really not interested in us. I haven't been cage diving but have seen hundreds of sharks, even a great white. I saw him in the Bahamas. All of...

    I Wanna Move

I also feel your pain but my problem is not Hubby. It's my Parents. My Dad is 92 and in great shape. My Mom is 89 and in great physical shape but end stage alzheimer's. They have been attached at the hips for the last 30 years of their 68 year marriage. I keep my Dad bouncing from the...

When I packed for my last trip, carry on was housing for camera and strobes and stuff to put it together. There was also one day/night's clothes in it. In my backpack, camera, lenses, laptop, and snacks. All my dive gear went in checked baggage. I've been to Equador (Galapagos Islands)...

    Sea sickness

I used to get seasick with the best of them. I found what I put in my stomach really mattered. So on the morning of diving, I start with dry toast, no butter, and 1/2 cup coffee, and if really needed one bowl of oatmeal, no milk. You can have a little sugar. To sum it up, ease up on the...
