    Uneducated fool.....

To set the story straight this 16 year old was not a diver, he was snorkeling in the shallows and was showing off by taunting the animal. After several grabs it seems that the nurse shark decided it did not want to play anymore so it "attached" itself to the kids chest. Alas it was not a diver...

    One for the Experts

I dive the Gulf and for most of the year it is warm. When the water cools off I have the same problem. It was 52 deg. the last time I dove. Anyway I was told that as my core temp. drops the chances of narcosis increases. Just my 2 cents.

    DM Equipment

Mario, check out this site for the "frisbe". resqdisc@resqdisc.net It has the information on the disc. And I can vouch for the effectiveness of this thing. It really is great. DSDO Herb

    Diving in the Tampa Area?

Steve and Margo, Venice is about 10 minutes from here. We do shark tooth charters there when the conditions permit. The area is just off shore about a mile in 28 to 30 feet of water. We have had divers bring up teeth up to 4 inchs long. The area is full of all kinds of bones along with the shark...

    Diving in the Tampa Area?

Im sorry to say this year has been exceptionaly cold. We just had a cold streak that hasnt been seen since the 1800s. This has brought the water temp way down. Last weekend it was 54 off the beach. But at 12 miles out it was 63. This week it has started to warm back up and if it continues the...

    DM Equipment

Hey Mario, I found something that works better than a throw bag. I picked up a throw "saucer", looks like a giant frisbe that has about 100 feet of line wrapped around its center and is thrown just like you would a frisbe. The range is awsome and the accuracy is great. I got mine from a friend...

    Jet Fins and there buckles

Hey Smitty I can top that one. I have owned my current pair of jets for six years and they not only have the same straps but have never been adjusted since new. I think it must be bionic rubber. I just hope that my new twin jets last as well. DSDO

    Diving in the Tampa Area?

Hey there, I am also a transplant from the washington area. I lived most of my life between Baltimore and D.C. I have been here is Fl for about 16 years now and have loved every minute of it. I now live in Sarasota which is just about 45 miles south of Tampa. I dont dive the Tampa/St.Pete...

    More Florida Diving

Jane I am curious, I have dived Devils Den about ten time and have never been there when the vis was less than 30 feet. And have yet to find an area that a diver could get into to much trouble other than panic. The area is actually pretty small so I dont understand why rescue divers took so long...

    Rescue scenario..

Seems to me that this is a no brainer. I would get to the surface with my buddy where assistance could be rendered. Worry about the lost deco stop later. At worst it would mean a chamber ride for me and at best saving my buddies life. delaying for even a minute could mean life or death.

    Security vs Cost and Bulk

I dive solo on most of my dives so I generaly configure my gear as to the dive I am doing. And most of my dives are OW. When diving past the 100 foot mark which I feel, for me is past the comfort level of making a emergency accent I carry a small pony bottle and seperate reg mounted to my main...

Integrated weights, Yes or No ?

I dive with a transpac b/c and it will hold this much wieght. As far as getting lifting it in and out of the boat I generaly just reach down and slip my wieght pouchs out before lifting my bc. I also load my b/c wieghts after putting it on. I sure beats wearing a belt around my waist and is...

    Fins

Hi Laurel, I have about 5 different pairs of fins and just recently purchased a pair of scuba pro split fins and have dove them about 10 time now. So far I have noticed less effort and more efficency over anything I have owned. The only thing I dont like about them is they seem less efficent...

    split fins

Hi Mario, I think that you will find as I did that with the split fins under normal diving conditions you will get as much push from them as you do with the Idea fins but with alot less effort and that equates in less air useage which means more bottom time:). Give em a try again and let me know...

    split fins

I also have a pair of Idea fins and have used them for awhile now and I find that I like the split fins better and the old scuba pro jet fins better than the Idea fins. And I have now problem with leg strength as I work out with wieghts several time a week and DM on the weekends Just my two cents

    Leg Cramps After Diving

I had a similar problem, but in my thighs, sometimes the cramps would be severe and only when I bent my legs. I experimented with gator aid and found that if I start drinking it on Friday ( I dive every sat and sun) and continue to use it during the weekend that the cramps do not occure. I...

    split fins

Thanks for the response. I bit the bullet and purchased a set of scubapro Jet fins and have already tried them out. So far they seem to be everything promised. I need to get a few more dives on them before I will say they are better than my old jets. The only thing that I find inferior is...

    split fins

Hello all, has anyone used the scubapro twin jets, and if so how did you like them. I know use a pair of the old jets but I am really thinking of purchasing a pair of the twins and would like some input before I lay down the money for them. Thanks, DSAO
