    Dive Shop Etiquette

Check the instructor signatures on the first four dives in your log book to see if there is a clause that says, "Til death do us part". ;)

Tara Reid on Whale Sharks. Hahaha.

I seriously :rofl3: when the dude tried to bring up tiger sharks!

Why is the rear dump valve different in Tech wings & Rec BC's

It's a system. Buoyancy (inflator hose, wing pull dump, dry suit dump valve) and SPG are on the left, timer/computer is on the right. Stage bottles go on the left (wing pull dump knob replaced with cave line) so the bottles don't interfere with the long hose routing (under the canister) on...

    Instantly out of air!

I would go with a bolt snap as well, so that there isn't an octo holder hanging off the BC while in use. :D

Trip Report: Key Largo July 2013

I hadn't heard that Chris left Silent World. When did that happen?

Our dive club made the local news!

Skippy! And Dwight, if I'm not mistaken. Great job, guys! :cool2:

    FL Keys mini-season fatality

+1! Or exhale into the manual inflator. (For those that still dive BCs with manual inflators...)

    Sucking down a tank quickly

He could scooter with a camera while lobstering during mini-season! ;)

    Sucking down a tank quickly

The OP asked for opinions. So why are you the one having a meltdown? I'm still trying to figure out your agenda, since it really doesn't have a lot to do with the OP or this thread. Was someone critical of your diving as a newish diver with a camera and that's made you hypersensitive so you...

    Sucking down a tank quickly

As if the additional task loading of a camera is really going to help the OP with his air consumption... What's your agenda?

    Sucking down a tank quickly

The key to lowering air consumption is to relax. If you're not neutral in the water, you'll use up a lot of air kicking with your feet and sculling with your hands, and that's a recipe for a short dive. If you watch experienced divers in the water, notice how they almost move in slow motion...

OMS slipstream best fin for me?

I've never gotten a satisfying definition of "monoprene" but my Slipstreams seemed to almost be made of a type of lightweight, hard plastic. In short order they "folded" (for lack of a better word) where the footpocket meets the fin. When I tried to contact OMS about the problem, I got the...

3 or 5 minute Safety Stop?

Dan, are you familiar with the dive park at Casino Point? I'm a dyed-in-the-wool 32% kind of diver, but many of the dives in the dive park tend to be OW check out dives or the typical Basic Scuba skill building variety, shallow enough that they would be just fine with air fills. It's pretty...

3 or 5 minute Safety Stop?

Sorry, not trying to be snarky. If it wasn't a DIR dive it wouldn't matter, and it if was the stops would already be known and agreed upon. That said, there is no 3 minute safety stop for a rec DIR dive, depending on the dive plan (depth and time) it's more likely 1 min at 30 ft, 1 min at 20...

3 or 5 minute Safety Stop?

No. Why? Does that matter to you?

3 or 5 minute Safety Stop?

IIRC, those that developed the concept and coined the phrase "rock bottom" say it does include calculations for elevated SAC rate, time to focus, all normal stops, etc. Rock bottom also changes with conditions, can't be calculated without knowing your buddy's SAC rate, is the same for the buddy...

3 or 5 minute Safety Stop?

At first I couldn't figure out your maths, but then I figured you were only accounting for you. By definition, "rock bottom" is enough gas for two divers to ascend at the normal rate and do standard safety stops. Maybe there needs to be another term for minimum gas needed for a solo diver...

HOG Tech 2 Fin vs Hollis F1

And also, how negative are the new Hog Tech 2 fins in salt water? Compared to, for example, Jets.

Looking for a replacement for jets

I've had two Slipstreams fold where the footpocket meets the widening fin. They seem like they are made of plastic, and don't have that rubbery feel you get from some fins. Shame, because they fit my warmwater boots so well. That's always been the goofy part of diving the Jets, you find the...
