    Locks of Love

I've wanted to do this, but I'm usual not able to let my hair get long enough. It'll get within an inch or two of the length needed with my hair being *too* short after the cut, and the split ends will be driving me nuts and I get it trimmed. The main thing is to make sure that is bundled in a...

Is a core warmer a good investment?

I have a 5mm full suit and then a 5/3 hooded vest that I wear with it. The hooded vest makes a big difference and I think either it or some other sort of core warmer would be well worth it as. I like being able to layer depending on what the temps are and how deep I'm planning on diving.

Thanks for the advice - I'll bring it up with the instructor.

How do new divers pick which agency to go through?

I did my OW through SSI - like many suggested on this thread, because that's what the shop I used was associated with. After reading this board and learning more about scuba in general, I'm happy with the instruction I got. Granted, not everything that could have been included in an OW course...

Things you should know (and didn't learn in OW)

I'll second this one. The shop I took classes through used (although I didn't know it at the time) LP steel 80's for their class and rental tanks. The first dive I did on a rental AL80 was not a pretty dive.... Didn't have enough weight with me since I was use to using the steel tank. I've...

    Eat more?

I always seem to want to chow down after a dive. I usually have a good breakfast and maybe some sort of snack during the S.I. I usually want something hot and hardy to both warm me up and fill me up.

Diver pokes shark in eye, survives head chomp

I like this article on it. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/01/23/world/main2387658.shtml Mainly because of this quote: ""He was diving so we have to fly low to the ground, and there are mountains on the way to Canberra," Lowry said of the rescue, adding that when you dive, "you have got to a...

    house insurance

I would think that the building owner's insurance would cover this no problem, assuming that they had insurance on just the dwelling. Since renters insurance only covers the renters personal items, there's no way I can see that policy covering it. That said, depending on how the damage...

    house insurance

In my understanding, in Ohio, the owner insures the building but the tenant is responsible for making sure their belongings get insured. Say there was a fire. The owner's insurance would cover the damage to the structure, but would not cover the loss of any of the tenants items. The tenant...

    Anyone use a bike trainer?

That's why I went with a rim-driven mag model. Granted I haven't tried any where the rear wheel sits on the roller, but with the rim-driven one, I have to turn the tv up maybe one or two clicks higher on the volume and that's it. I'm actually surprise at how quiet it is. When I ride during...

    Anyone use a bike trainer?

Ditto on the thanks Neil - those work out ideas were just what I was looking for. I was already eying up some of the spinerval dvds but don't know when/if I'll get any. Rollers are pretty much that - three rotating drums on a metal frame. Both wheels rotate and are free to move, so it's more...

Headache every day for 2 weeks after my first scuba diving ! ((

Like other's have said, the best solution is to talk to a doctor who will be able to examine you and ask questions. DAN - Divers Alert network - is a great medical resource and will help members and non-members alike with diving related health questions. From their website, the number is...

Buying My Scuba Gear For OW Class...need advice

That's Ms. Eckybay, thank you very much :D Like others have said, just because the dive shop may be calling it a "beginners package" It doesn't mean that it's low quality gear. You're definitely doing the right thing by researching the purchase. The more you can try on, the better...

Buying My Scuba Gear For OW Class...need advice

Since different fins fit differently with different size boots, it may be better to go to a local shop where you can actually try the fins with the boots at the same time - that way you know it'll fit. Same thing with the mask. Different masks fit different faces. You need to make sure you get...
