    Now GoPro studio is discontinued....

Davinci Resolve was recommended by the video folks where I work. There's the $bazillion version that works in our editing suites, but the free version does everything that a mere mortal could need. DaVinci Resolve 16 | Blackmagic Design There's very good (free) training for this as well. I'm...

To tether or not to tether

The focused dive light on the left I use to spot things in crevices, then turn it off, and use the right side light which is a wide angle video light. The clip is always on my chest D ring so the bungie is slightly stretched when I'm shooting, so no clinks or clanks (so far). I'll have to keep...

To tether or not to tether

Thanks to everyone for the great info and suggestions. I crafted a "field expedient" tether Friday night, and had 3 dives Saturday morning. I had about 120 minutes of bottom time and came back with about 30 minutes of video. Of that, maybe 5 minutes is something that someone else might see...

How to deal with farsightedness for macro shooting?

Bifocal mask - works great. I can both read my gauges and see things farther than 10 ft away. prescriptiondivemasks.com

To tether or not to tether

I'm a very new photographer. I've been diving with a GoPro and the stock GoPro floating grip. Of course that's been painful with trying to handle the camera and a separate light. I just received the Mako 2-handle camera tray from my lovely wife as a birthday present, and I have one question to...

    Closed Citizen Hyper Aqualand Watch

I have a bit of a lashup. MacBook Pro MacOS 10.14.6 Mojave VMWare Fusion Pro 8.5.10 Windows 10 64-bit Build 18362 Aqualand Graph Nx version 5.0.0.0 USB to Serial Adapter (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QG83YVC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) I spent an embarrassingly...

    Closed Citizen Hyper Aqualand Watch

I was able to take this vintage device for a dive this weekend and it still compares favorably to a more modern dive computer - at least in terms of dive recording. Here are two graphs - the one on the left is from an Atmos 2, the one on the right is from the Hyper Aqualand. The watch captured...

    Questions about history of octos...

I did NASDS in 1978 - "safe second" was the preferred and recommended method, but we did cover buddy breathing. In the pool as part of the "games", and in the ocean at least once on the check out dives. Just kneel facing each other and pass a reg back and forth a few times to get comfortable...

Another "Help me build my GoPro rig" thread

That looks awesome, and is leading to one of my main questions - about the distance between the lights and the camera. You seem to have almost 2 ft from the lens to the lights. Why so far? Why is it better to get the lights farther away? Is this to get the lights from the "side" so there's...

Help with simple deco algorithm project

I understand that you're looking for the Buhlman algorithm data, but just for my own amusement I gathered the data from an Atmos 2 (first shipped 2006, modified Haldanean, 12 compartments), just to see how much difference, if any there would be between the algorithm bases. Not much difference...

transport weights in bag, or in BC pouches, or ?

Where/how do you carry your weights to your dive site? My weight bag (was a birthday present years ago) has finally given up the ghost, should I replace it? It's an older version of this one: XS Scuba Weight Bag and has served me well for 10-12 years or so. I'm trying to decide if I should...

"Long range" and "advanced" dives in Kona - worth it?

On our trip to Kona last year I did the Manta, Pelagic and long range (among many others). In our case, the long range turned into (I think) a combination advanced because all of us had quite a few dives. I only had 105 and I was one of the newest divers. The site we went to is one I will...

Drawback to a brightly colored wing

I really miss my safety orange AT-Pac. I could be seen and distinguished from everyone else very easily. My wife loved it as well, as it made it much easier for us to stay together. I remember orange, yellow, blue, pink and red wet suit material as not being that difficult to find at the time...

    San Diego in August

For the leopards you have to have low vis; they are very shy. The “low vis” is just the churned up sand from being in 4 ft of water. Go out 30 or 40 yards and it’s usually clearer, but no leopard sharks.

Need a new primary handheld light

Another DGX 800 fan - in fact I like it so much I just ordered the 600 (wide video beam) a few days ago. Hopefully that will be here tomorrow for Sunday GoPro diving. Here are some stills from using the 800 - about at 80 ft, limited vis, lots of particulates. You can see the beam is a “fat...

    Prescription lens for mask?

Prescriptiondive masks.com ++ They did my first set of “gauge readers”, and when I graduated to bifocals, they did those too. Also did full lenses for my son and wife. No bobbles in any of those 4 masks. They’re local so I did drop off and pick up. I suspect that in another 2 years, they’ll be...

    San Diego in August

That *should* be a good time for Leopard sharks at the Marine Room. Max depth 5’ - really, they hang out in the very shallows, and are very shy. Grab some kelp or other floating plants to break up your silhouette, don’t move and watch them come out of the “fog”. No need for a wetsuit at all for...

For Sale - The EDGE - vintage diving computer

Isn’t that analog ScubaPro the one the called the “Bend-o-matic”? If anyone has a pointer to the history of dive computers, I’d be interested, especially the SKinny Dipper. I never owned one, but borrowed one for a trip once back in the early 90s (IIRC).

Which GoPro should I buy - will only use 2-3 times a year

Have you tried the handlebar mount yet? I saw that setup last year in Hawaii, now that I think about it. I’m thinking of this (https://shop.gopro.com/mounts/handlebar-seatpost-pole-mount/AGTSM-001.html) on the DGX 600 video light (DGX PUSH Handheld Light Kit - Video Beam | Dive Gear Express®)
