    Marking Miflex Hoses

I like the colored tie idea, and there are even some you can write on. We use something similar for marking a bazillion cables in a datacenter Identification Cable Ties - Secure™ Cable Ties

    Kona in October

I'm trying to decide when I'm going to Kona and Kauai this year, myself. Normally we would do the week after school resumes :-) to avoid the mongol hordes! I def don't want to be there in late November again, the entire north shore of Kauai was un-swimmable, let alone diveable that late in the...

    What do you drive?

We replaced the Plymouth Grand Voyager - low deck, LOTS of room with a Mazda 5. Almost as much cargo room, even lower deck. The Mazda 6 is NOT good for carrying gear.

Sudafed / Pseudoephedrine & Diving (on air)

There are now "HBP" versions of many of these meds for people with hypertension. They may or may not have the same issues as they are sometimes completely different drug families.

    Gear organization advice!

I would coil the regs and use these reusable Wire Ties. They come in lots of sizes, up to some that can keep a garden hose coiled. I use them for everything from desktop computer cables to 50' extension cords...

    Using go pro with lights?

There are several examples in this thread - a GoPro plus a reasonably priced tray and a reasonably priced light will get you started. To tether or not to tether I know that my rig is capable of shooting better footage than I am. When that changes, I'll upgrade.

    Compensation for Scuba Classes

This sounds so much like an "Instagram influencer" (HAH!) and others expecting artists and musicians to work "for the exposure". If all you get is a discount you're paying for the privilege of working, instead of getting paid.

When to call a dive... a question of limits.

I've called dives and had buddies (well known and insta-) call dives. Here in San Diego the Cove can be a glorious kelp dive or a nightmare. We were there one morning (0730) for a meetup dive. There are some folks coming out of the water already. The Cove looked like a washing machine on "turbo...

    Aeris Atmos Elite Software

I dumped the Aeris software after more failures than successes. With Aeris a defunct brand, I wouldn't expect any new software, even if Oceanic is still around. I've heard great things about Subsurface, but because I have a Mac I went with MacDive. If I didn't have a Mac, or MacDive wasn't...

    Got certified, now what?

My wife and I cert'ed when we lived in Phoenix - we ended up making the occasional 3 day weekend trips to San Diego as often as we could. Then we moved here :-) If you can swing it, there are Meetup groups that hit Tuesday and Thursday afternoon/evenings and Saturday and Sunday mornings. Very...

GoPro 7 Black for SCUBA, snorkel and kayak

You're where I was a few months ago. I dove with the floaty handle thing and upgraded to the Mako 2-handle tray https://www.makospearguns.com/Two-Handle-Camera-Tray-p/m2htct.htm Here's a thread on tethering a rig with lots of pics of various options. To tether or not to tether

    Made the jump.

I have been seeing a little bit more primary donate from OW/AOW divers in San Diego. Not up to 50%, but probably at least 20%, maybe more? Some of them are visiting divers from back east and a very small sample size. Of course, we get a lot of folks from New England, maybe it's taught more up...

    GoPro 7 or 8

The 8's lens cover is removable, and you need to do that to use the Super Suit. Hypersmoothing is the real deal.

Camera Tray - grease and/or threadlock?

I am a new-ish owner of your camera tray and have a few questions. First, I love it - I'm a first time underwater videographer, and I wouldn't be doing this without your tray - a great balance of performance and cost! Second, you might want to put the sticker+grease package on TOP of the tray...

    Streamlined OW Regulator Setup

I trained primary donate for rec OW/AOW/etc. Last year I added the longer (40") hose under the arm. I like it a lot, especially in the local kelp. I just always make sure that I have a focused conversation with my buddy on three things. By focused I mean a real conversation where we actually...

Dive Computer wrist mount or console

As a new (and new again) diver I started with my computer in a console. It wasn't a bad thing when I was first learning. You've got pressure and computer in one place, only one thing to remember to look at. Lower task loading for beginning divers. It made packing for trips and dives easier, if I...

    Truth Aquatics suspending operations.

My grandfather was a railroader on the B&O. Of the old school, he started on the B&O in the early 50s. After he retired, I still remember as a little kid when he showed me what he said were the railroad regulations. It looked like a thick phonebook. He said, "Every rule's a body. Every rule in...

    Shearwater Perdix (AI) and MacDive?

Thanks! I had an email from Marissa in my spam folder, which shouldn't have happened. I'll give it a look. I could use a brain break and a few dives in January.

    Shearwater Perdix (AI) and MacDive?

I'm seriously thinking about a Perdix AI for an after holiday gift for myself. There's nothing really wrong with my current computer, but I think that after 12+ years I deserve a new one. Also, the company is (sorta) gone, there's no long term support, etc. I figure that the Atmos 2 can be a...
