    "standard" pony size

Just to add one alternate view... Yes, I use a 19, not a 30, have been quite happy with it. I absolutely have nothing against larger tanks, if people use them, but in the area I dive I haven't seen anyone actually use a 30 as a pony. I have, indeed, seen tech divers using 30s and 40s, but for...

    7 day x 30min Cardio Challenge!!!!!

Way to go with the Lasik :) When I had mine, Dr.'s orders were to stay out of the spa for a month -- that bit, but I loved getting it done. 46 min yesterday, 40 today -- not losing weight, but it's going well with the stopping smoking :)

    swallowing air

Any chance it's water? It's easy to get water in, swallow it, while diving. At least salt water can be pretty blechy until you learn to keep a good seal on the mouthpiece.

PADI AOW Book -- what so bad?

Depending on what you want to learn about, Clay Coleman's "The Certified Divers Handbook" is also good reading, on a wide variety of topics. "Deeper Into Diving" is also good, again depending on what exactly you wish to learn about. (Be sure to get the newer edition.)

Where do you get your photo's printed?

RiteAid does them, if there's a local one with photo service: http://www.riteaid.com/photos/digital_prints.jsf (What I use for something fast)

    Affordable BCD

You might poke around for a Riptide Zone II. A lot of lift, pretty rugged. Nominally it's over $400, but you might see good sales on it periodically (LDS sold them for much lower $ during a club day last Spring).

    I'm going to quit smoking!

I've been good (that's why I've started working out more, need to chase a few calories away :) ) Just switched to the 14 mg patch -- actually looking forward to getting off the patch and zyban, but that's a ways away yet.

Newbie question re: units of measure.

Knots and nautical miles are common terms on the ocean, even for nominally metric countries, so it's surprising that folks in a sea-oriented sport would push all that hard for metric. I just don't think that Verne would have done as well with "96560.832 Km Under the Sea" :)

Non medical accident - gear lost - opinions please

"I"m considering sucking it up and chalking up the difference in cost to an expensive lesson, and depreciation of gear that has seen roughly 400 dives." Sorry to hear about the gear loss, but expecting MSRP on gear used for roughly 400 dives seems a bit much. How old was the equipment?

    $1500 Mask

Curious to see if it has the transmitter sync problem I've seen with some Aeris Elites, where you have to periodically bring your wrist near the transmitter to reestablish the link. Maybe that will be billed as a feature, gets people to practice mask R&R :) (If Scubatoys, or Oceanic, wish to...

Fins, booties, mask, and snorkel, check! What next?

You can get deals on some decent shape used gear, too. If your LDS is an active shop, classes being taught, it should have gear that tends to get cycled regularly (replaced). A good shop is willing and able to work with divers on things like that -- let them know that you're tight on $, but...
