    Florida Keys

To get to the Keys you have to fly into Fort Lauderdale or Miami and rent a car. It's about one and a half or two hours from either one to Key Largo, Tavernier or Islamorada. Cars are a lot cheaper at the Lauderdale 'Cypress' airport parking garage car rental and this airport is a breeze to get...

    REEF Lionfish Capturing/Handling Workshop

A small frog gig and rubber gloves work nicely. Grab him by the mouth and use EMT scissors to cut off his spines and he's almost ready for the grill.

    A Little Bragging

I don't get it. What REALLY is Master Diver? Will anyone please answer? I REALLY don't know. I'd like to get one of those diplomas to frame up and put on my wall. Sounds impressive.

    Advice Needed for Wet Suit

I've never dove the Red Sea but a buddy of mine was working in Saudi Arabia some years back and he told me that you don't need a wetsuit in those waters. He worked outside on construction all his life and is from the North so that might have had an impact.

Need multi-trip travel insurance. Anybody have a recommendation?

It's called: "Making more money without adding any product to the sale. Or: s*****g the customer." Sort of like auto insurance companies charging you extra for each and every motor vehicle you have instead of insuring you as an individual.

Pervasive "Going Pro" Theme in New Divers

What it is, is that these newbies have found something new to do that they REALLY like to do and want to do it all the time.(Sort of like s*x.) And they want to be able to make a living at it. (Sort of like a 'lady of the evening'.) Unfortunately, like in the other mentioned avocation, there...

    The various scuba diving organizations

I don't "belong" to any cert agency but I subscribe and pay for DAN insurance as any one with any more than a pea brain would. I certified OW with SDI simply because they skipped over the unnecessary things like tables and went directly to computers. Also, they let you do the brain work online...

Did Scuba build your water confidence?

I started diving when I was 66, six years ago. I already had confidence in the water by then. What it did for me was to want to go to the ocean as many times as possible at great expense since I live in Ohio which is landlocked so it has, over the years, emptied my 'play money' bank account.

    Rechargeable batteries?

Beats me. Batteries are so cheap that I don't even think about it.

Do I need to get my logbook stamped after each dive ?

No, but if you want to keep a record of your "deep" dives it's a good idea. You may have to "prove" to a new dive shop that you have done a few deep dives in the last year or so otherwise they might want you to pay for a guide on any deep dives that day.

    South Florida hydro shop review

The extinguisher shop I've gone to charges $25 for one and $40 for two. He's not allowed to place an inspection sticker on the tank but he does stamp it (company policy) but he inspects them and leaves the rest up to you. (I have some fake stickers which I print a bogus Florida name and address...

    Where to go?

I checked Expedia and Delta has a 7:20am flight to Ft. Lauderdale for $269 round trip out of St. Louis. I'm sure you will find shore diving around there. You can usually rent a car at Payless in the Cypress Parking garage for anywhere from $10-30 a day plus gas if you reserve it a few days ahead...

Has the RDP changed over the years?

Dounno but I am sure that it is a waste of time since computers do the job nicely.

Gulf side / Atlantic side... Snorkeling... Diving.... Kids.... ?????

I've only dove the Gulf side twice. Once on the Oriskany and once off of Cortez, about 60 miles south of Tampa. The Oriskany was great, though a long boat ride out. The Cortez dive was not much to brag about. I'd do the trip across and dive around Ft. Laud.
