Dive knives when out with a DM

If you dive off a dive boat they probably won't allow you to dive solo unless you havecat least one cutting tool. Off the shore or your own boat no-one will be the wiser. I dove solo for years off my own boat without a knife or certification of any kind. The (then 65 year-old) wife got...

Dive knives when out with a DM

One cutting tool is required by PADI and a second cutting tool is recommended. https://www.americandivers.net/en/padi-self-reliant-diver

Dive knives when out with a DM

I'm a certified solo/self reliant diver and required to carry two cutting tools. One is a big knife strapped to my leg. Was diving with Dive Tutukaka, New Zealand one time and got put on a small boat with fewer than ten divers. One of the divers was the partner of then New Zealand's prime...

Question How old are you and how long certified? Poll- please take part!

75 years old. Been diving for 54 years but only certified for 12 years. Started before PADI and before certification was required to rent equipment. Have had my own gear for ages. Dove off my own boat or rented boats till certified.

75 years old. Started scuba diving at age 21. Still diving but not as often. Used to do four dives a month till a year ago but have now slowed down to 2 dives every other month.

    Isla Providencia opening...

The wife and I sailed to Providencia 46 years ago on our sailboat. What I remember was that was the only place I had to exit the water because a school (herd) of barracuda started to become way too interested in me. The other funny remembrance was that when ashore we saw a bunch of locals...

    Fishhook in Finger

Seen lots of hooks embedded in the ropes that tie bouys to the wreck. Don't grab the ropes if you can avoid it.

Info Value of Masks and other factors to lower Covid-19 Risk while Traveling

I see colored boxes. Read the report and it is based on a mathematical model, not actual data. Seems obvious that you are less likely to get infected by an airborne virus if outside in a well ventilated space not near anyone else. It also makes sense that you are more likely to get...

    Covid19 and Nitrox

Every bit of information helps - thanks. Got the pulse oxidizer. Bought enough of them to hand out to grown son and daughter and a spare. Thanks for the info. The tanks would only be used if the hospitals were overrun and unable to accept anyone. Hopefully the tanks could also be refilled...

    Covid19 and Nitrox

New Zealand has been one of the most locked down countries in the world for the past two years. Subsequently very few Covid19 infections to date and only 53 deaths (with or of Covid19) out of a population of 5M. While 90% of the population have been doubly vaccinated we have almost no natural...

    How does moisture enter tanks?

If your LDS does a hydro on your tank and doesn't do a good job if drying the tank some residual water could stay in the tank.

    Drysuit Squeeze/DCS

The air in your drysuit not only negates squeeze but adds thermal insulation to keep you warmer. Isn't that the main reason for using a drysuit, to stay warm? If the "bubble" causes you problems when you ascend, perhaps consider relieving the bubble when you start your ascent and continue...

Boat operators-differences between good & bad divers?

Lobster/crayfish diving also cause the fins to get beat up.

Boat operators-differences between good & bad divers?

I've owned a boat for 25+ years but not a boat operator so will try to put myself into the shoes of the operators that I dive with. All three of the operators that my wife and I have dove with are very caring. First they try to break the ice and tell a joke or two and give you a safety...

I can’t believe this happened! My tanks are breeding.

You need to take your tanks to planned parenthood.

Post Your Pretty Funny Stuff Here

Obviously not in a dry suit. If you were then the divers on the boat will only notice after you get back on and unzip.

    Soon to be diver

Congratulations. I hope that scuba diving will enrich your life as much as it has mine. One word of warning, if you have kids being a scuba diver is going to cost you a whole lot more than if you are single or child free :-) Your kids ( and perhaps your wife/partner) will want in on the action.
