    steel 80, or 100?

"A LP Steel 100 is about the size and weight as the AL 80 I trained on, with 25% more air. Only downside is higher cost. I looked at a HP tank, but it wasn't much smaller and was not much lighter, though it had better bouyancy. In my area, dive boats often can't go beyond 3000PSI, so the 100...

    Any new diving books

Has anyone seen any NEW books about diving lately? Shadow Divers and the Certified Divers Handbook are the latest I have, and they're both two years old now. I need something new to read!

    Diving Magazines

I'm still at the stage where I'll read anything about diving and subscribe to pretty much everything, but I find that I finish each new issue of Scuba Diving in about 10 minutes. I do enjoy Dive Training, but the magazine I really like is the British magazine, Diver. The quality of the writing...

Playa del Carmen - 3 days only - need dive advice

I dove several times last week with Abyss Dive Shop and recommend them highly--small, friendly, extremely professional. Something you might consider if you're not too fussy about the afternoon dives: depending on who needs what, they sometimes do 2 certification dives in the afternoon and I'm...

    West Caicos construction

When I was diving off West Caicos in January I was surprised to see the fairly serious construction going on there--an artificial harbor included. Does anyone know anything about this?

    South Caicos

Ocean Haven was completely shuttered in January when I was there. However, there is some kind of hotel nearing completion on the bluff above the water about a half mile east of there--owned, I was told, by one of the local families. I don't know if it is open yet--I also don't know if they'll...

Rafael, Have a look at this page--it gives brief summaries of several sites: www.isladiveguide.com

    Turks & Caicos Operators

I had to check my log on this--I did two dives with Dive Provo in January and seemed to remember that they said, very clearly, "dive your own profile." Sure enough, my two dives were 60 and 51 minutes, and I definitely wasn't the last one back on the boat. Also, about marinas--Dive Prove and...

    Recommended New England Charters

Thanks for this--this operator is new to me, and welcome information. Interesting photo on their About Us page--a guy, apparently about to jump in, wearing shorts and no top, if I'm seeing this correctly. Can I retire my 7mm and hooded vest? Maybe there's something to the South Shore after all!

Oceanic / Aeris 2.x software issues

Ditto that. I think I find #2 and #4 to be most annoying.

    Easy Diver

I love the Easy Divers crew--a total hoot. They live up to their name, both in terms of dives (always in the 20-50 foot range, always in as sheltered water as they can find), and their attitude, which is that we're all grownups and all one family. I can't wait to get back in with them. And...

    Didn't pass swim test

Dear Rhonda, After diving for a couple of years I am finally taking a swimming class right now--I think it will the best thing for my diving I ever did. I passed my OW swimming test but can't say I enjoyed it. It was SSI--I seem to remember that it was only 100 yards, any combination of...

    Providenciales Dive Operators

This is a weird thread. I dove with Provo Turtle Divers two weeks ago and they were fine, just fine. I think part of me chose them because of my natural contrarian bent--nothing against Fifi, who no doubt runs the excellent operation so often pitched here, but I sometimes run in the opposite...

    28° is hot or cold?

I was recently diving in 28C water (78F by my calculations). I was in a 3/2, and was a little chilly on my second dive. I'm used to cold water diving (50-55F in a 7mm), but I would have liked to have had a two-piece, or a vest.

    Caribbean Water Temperatures

The water temperature off West Caicos last week was 79F. It was my first time there, so I can't compare it to previous Januarys. I also noticed the bleaching effect, although it took me a couple of days to figure out what it was.

    Mantas Dive shop?

Do you mean Manta Divers in Cancun? If so, I can recommend them highly--I did my certification dives with them two years ago. I've been hooked ever since. Small boats, no cattle.

Need Recomendation for lodging for Mayan Riviera (diver and non diver)

I am going to Playa del Carmen, also in April, with my wife and 8 year-old daughter, who are non-divers. We are staying at the Gran Puerto Real, which does have a spa, and an exercise room (not a gym or health club). It's an all-inclusive, which helps with the young one, but we chose it...

    Another Dopey Mask Fit Question

Since I started diving I've been wearing an Oceanic XSite mask. It has never leaked a drop, with or without a snorkel, with or without a hood. My issue with it is limited downward visibility--I'd love to be able to see my BC one day, and the knife I keep there. So I tried a couple of other...
