    Va explosion

It went down. :D Seriously, there are folks trying to get an exact fix on it. It appears that it may be within the "technical diving" range, and I hear that boats in that area are already setting up charters (perhaps a bit premature, but what the heck, right?)

Unknown device - what is it?

It looks like the device in the web reference. I can't come up with a reason why it wouldn't work - the only real problem is the hoses, since you need two (one for inhale, one for exhale.) Pretty cool recovery of the energy in the rising gas normally expelled into the water....

Scuba Death in Cozumel Early this Week???

This is sad, but it points out a few things... 1. Reg faceplate and diaphram gone?! Uh, folks, that's not easy to do. Some regs are "pinned", but even those that are not require SEVERAL turns to get them apart. My G250s can be stripped underwater, but I wouldn't call it easy - or something...

Training agencies safety and course integrity assurances.

Exactly, and yes, I've seen it, at least the second of your two. Does violation of the NDLs for the table under which the class was being taught on a cert dive, when not driven by an emergency, count too? IMHO it should, and I've seen that one as well.

    Need Advice On Important Matter

Yeah, to a point. Neoprene can be stretched, but when you do so, you destroy some of the gas bubble chambers, and thus its permanently altered. You might try that, but be aware that the reason the suit keeps you warm is that it traps a thin layer of water inside, which you then warm. If you...

    Need Advice On Important Matter

Does it constrict your breathing in any way? That's one danger sign.

    Near Drowning

Rick is absolutely right. Aspiration of even very small amounts of water can kill several days later. One of the problems is that the water will cause electrolyte shifts in the tissue (fresh draws in electrolytes from the tissue, salt the opposite) which is extremely damaging, and doesn't...

    Dry suit dive traing?

A203s pretty much got the short list :D I just taught myself in my pool. It was pretty funny the first time I did the feet-up thing :D BTW, while its not so bad venting through your neck or arm seal in the pool, if you actually have to do it in open water for real it won't be because you...

    Boat works

Uh, welding and fiberglass don't get along all that well :D Castro is an old %%%% who's gonna be dead in a few years anyway. It might be easier than getting our azzes shot off to just wait for him to croak :D

Switching between standard and enriched air

Yes, for high FO2 service - the reason they were doing the tests. Nobody is disputing cleaning regs for mixes containing more than 40% O2. What's being disputed is the need to clean them for mixes within the recreational range. Indeed, I know that claim of "need" is BS. How come...

ROTFL! The only "hardpoint" on my boat is for a fighting chair - that might be a problem :D

Switching between standard and enriched air

You obviously didn't read the NASA study. I did. NASA tried to force ignition in GROSSLY contaminated regulators, by hooking them up to high pressure gas sources with extremely-fast-acting (pizeo-actuated) electrical valves that could pressurize the line leading to the regulator in a few...

    Drysuit Out Of Place?

Yeah, I do the same thing as Skull.... Below about 72F or so, I dive dry. In a spring, even with 72F water, I dive dry. Mid 70s and above I usually dive wet, with a 3 mil and 3 mil hooded vest being my low temp option, and just a 3 mil at higher water temps. I've never been in water warm...

    Boat works

57 surprised me. By now its usually getting warmer; last year at this time it was in the low-middle 60s. The first dive, expecting low-mid 60s, I wore only my polypro UW. MISTAKE! Can you say FREEZING?! Fortunately I had brought my T-100 oversuit, and put that on for the second one. My...

    Boat works

Good reefs here too. Nabbed a bug yesterday on my second dive, and two more kinda (well ok, I nabbed the bag that another diver on the boat dropped on HIS dive - and it had two bugs in it already :D) Would have shot some fish too, but the legal-size red snapper are out of season, and the...

    Trouble with dive shop

Yeah, that's a good one too, and it can be EXTREMELY effective. Just be sure you never want to do anything with them again, 'cause you'll probably be arrested if you show up at their door for trespassing after doing that :D

    Airfare Deals/Tricks

Second things first.... I don't do charters. But I will ALWAYS dive with people from Scubaboard under recreational vessel operation rules. All 'ya gotta do is let me know when you'll be here and how to get ahold of you; if its nice I'm usually out there; its a passion for me. I don't...

    Boat works

There's a LOT to dive up here. I have over 500 "marks" in my plotter, and I haven't seen anywhere near a significant number of them. There are good dives anywhere from a mile or two out of the pass to well over 20-30nm out. Just depends on where you want to go, when, how deep, etc.

    Boat works

The 45 has Detroit 6V92TAs, Covington conversions, with twin dry turbos. They scream like a banshee (4 turbos down there will do that!) but the boat's great and those engines, properly taken care of, are fantastic. I love 'em even if they do leak a bit of oil and aren't as "social", and are...
