    Moray Eel Attack

its hard to emphasise just how poor the eyesight of these eels can be. My pet echidna moray is amazingly slow to find anything that isn't within about 2 inches of her. She can get in the region of it real quick using her sense of smell but finding it takes time and biting other stuff like her...

    400 dead bottlenose dolphins

to be fair generally patrolling "the coast of east africa" is a bit different to being off zanzibar blasting dolphins...and there are pre-sonar stranding records aplenty as understand it. sometimes things walk like a duck, quack like a duck but turn out to be a small goose with a funny accent...

Biggest Mantis Shrimp I have ever seen - Thailand

There used to be a bit of film kicking round on the web of a Lysiosquillina sp. driving those spears straight through a passing fish. It put me off the spearers even more than the smashers.

    Sea dragon collecting...

If memory serves one or two pregnant males are collected each year and the babies are raised and distributed to other public aquaria. The problem shouldn't be feeding the young as we can now easily feed much smaller seahorses. I believe I read that their spawning dance required a rise...

    What can I do?

be enthusiastic - about everything. someone's going on holiday: "awesome", just certified: "brilliant, welcome to diving!" the number one thing that irritates me about dive pros is a lack of enthusiasm. diving for those of us who don't do it as our job is this wonderful privilege that most of...

    Signal light

Glowsticks have a bit of a chemical cost and are use once only - there are now some fairly cool LED alternatives available eg the one halfway down this page http://www.divernet.com/bubbling/1105justsurfaced.shtml are apparently a multiuse alternative. personally speaking I find constantly...

Is there SCUBA ettiquette I need to know about?

if you are diving in a new area and the dm or captain tells you to do something - getting on/off the boat for example - a certain way which is different to how you normally do it and may even seem weird, there is almost certainly a good reason (probably related to the boat or local conditions)...

    New Oxycheq Mach V!!

I agree - my current wing (the apvalves travelwing) is bright red and I love it - can't understand the attraction of a low viz colour like black for open water use (apart from fashion).
