If you dive in those temperatures you need more redundancy then an octo, you need 2 first stages. Doubles, SM or atleast a H-valve. A free flow isn’t that uncommon at freezing temps.

You are right but sadly enough many divers and instructors don’t care. In belgium 5m visibility is a good day, so we all dive close to the bottom. There is still 90%+ that flutters and leaves more dust then a rally car.

The people who introduce themselves as DM are mostly the new divers. In my experience they stop doing that once they know how to dive.

The difference is that at some point more people have seen the ship and traveled with it. People like different things. Some like reefs some like rocks, do you know that there are people who don’t even like to dive?

The problem with Cmas is that it is runned by old people that are so sure they discovered diving ages ago and there isn’t a way to improve. It is not because it works that there isn’t a better/safer way.

If I remember correct Alain Dobbelaere teaches SM. I have met a few divers who did other courses with him and where happy about them. SM divers are rare in the Benelux since there aren’t many spots where you need it.
