    Cheap and Easy Knife Tether

Well, it's a Wenoka squeeze-lock and I don't see any way that it could release unintentionally, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. There's always a chance that I can fumble finger with gloves on, thinks it's secure and it's not really clicked. I'll post a photo when i get a few minutes.

    Cheap and Easy Knife Tether

Since everyone seems to lose dive knives, I decided I'd like to tether mine with a coil lanyard. All the stuff at the dive shop seemed way to heavy and clunky (and expensive.) I picked up a "Security Tether" at Office Depot for $5 which is a light plastic coil which stretches to about 3' and...

Inexperience resulted in OOA at 66 feet (long)

I like the rock bottom turn arounds too. I'm adding them in Sharpie to my RDP.

    dacor eagle

My father-in-law lost his purge button too. I surprised the part is not readily available since this seems to be a common problem.

    Is Dacor junk??

We went diving with father in law and his girlfriend in the Keys. He's got a Dacor Eagle less than a year old based on her recommendation since she used to own a dive shop for 20 years. We come up from dive and his purge button is missing and a spring is hanging out of the regulator. The...

Scubapro Air2 vs. Tusa Duo-Air integragted Octo BC

You might want to consider the Atomic SS1. It is much more ergonomic that the AIR-2 and can be easily detached from the corroguated hose for cleaning and storage.

To lock or not to lock...

TSA steals knives from checked baggage frequently. My brother's boss had a nice pocketknife lifted from checked baggage. They must have great collection.

    New regulator

What safety recalls are you talking about? Neither Atomic or Scubapro have had anything recalled since 2001 and 1997 as far as I can tell.

    Atomic B2 Reg?

One more thing. I got my B2 with the exhaust T from the M1. It's wider and moves the bubbles out more. You have to get a gray B2 if you want it to match since the M1 only comes in gray. And you don't have to get it at LP to get a good price. Yes, two year service interval and a valve seat...

    Atomic B2 Reg?

Very nice reg. It's like breathing through a mouthpiece with nothing on the back. The suggested retail price is only $699, so if someone wants to charge you $750, that's a ripoff. I got mine for around $550 from a authorized dealer.

Spin off from "Water as weight rather than lead?"

I think you're seriously mistaken. Monty Python is NOT Sci-Fi. (Excepting the brief interlude in Life of Brian, of course....)

What to do if stranded at sea

If you fell off the flight deck, you started with a flotation vest, cranial, dungarees, boots, T-shirt and overalls if you are dressed to regulation. You stay warm by huddling with anyone else that went with you. (If you're by yourself, think warm thoughts) You ditch the boots and the cranial...

Water as weight rather than lead?

No, depleted barely radiates. It was used for counterweights on some airplanes I worked on in the Navy. The A-4 stabilizers if I remember right. You did have to fill out some special forms if you had to remove/replace it though.

What to do if stranded at sea

When I was in the Navy, we were taught to float, try to stay warm if it's cold, and try to stay out of the sun. Signal if anything goes by and don't drink the saltwater. That's about all you can do. Don't try to swim or tread water, you'll only wear yourself out. If you have a light, you...

    Setting up gear!!!

Actually it is a 2 year recommended service interval. The lifetime warranty is actually in effect regardless of whether it is serviced or not.

Water as weight rather than lead?

Witches, ducks and wood float. To determine if an object will be useful as ballast, it must be heavier than a duck. Get a really big balance scale. Put a witch or a duck on one side and your ballast on the other side.

Water as weight rather than lead?

Ah, that's the tricky thing about water. It's actually densest right before it freezes, then it becomes less dense. That's why ponds freeze from the top down. So what you need to do is get a refrigeration unit and keep the water in your weight belt right about 32.5oF. Then it will be denser...

How much did it all cost?

Damage to date: $1100 on BCD and regulators $200 mask, fins and boots (even with 1/2 off on the fins) $140 on 1mm wetsuit $150 on lessons & books (friend rate) $150 on weight, gloves, knife, slate and misc clips and crap $25 for a gear bag to haul it all around.

    Setting up gear!!!

If you are not diving in very cold water or planning on using nitrox with 40% or higher oxygen percentage, you can easily use the Atomic B2 rather than the M1. You may consider ordering it with an M1 exhaust however, since it is wider.
