    Wetsuit recommendations - multi-use wetsuit

I agree with scubajcf. Diving a 3mm is great in Tropic waters, but you will befinitely want at least a 7mm suit for NJ. If not a farmer john style which would give you 14mm on your core. You will find that most people who continue to dive in the Northeast do eventually switch to drysuits...

    Possible to be too warm?

It is all personal. Depending on the person you might overheat. I dive a 3mm in tropical waters and feel comfortable, but do no 1, and only 1, person that dives in a 7mm. She is very cold all the time!

    Diaphram vs Piston regs.....

If you go Oceanic: Save money and buy the Oceanic Delta4 for your second stage. I dive it in warm/cold waters and it performs great in both. Especially as a newer diver you won't notice a difference.

Congrats on the AI test and that sounds awesome! Enjoy yourself in the Rainforest!

    Initial OW Dives

Well one thing you need to consider the difference between diving in fresh and salt water. In fresh water with a 3mm fullsuit I need 8lbs for accurate bouyancy, but in salt water in the same suit I would wear 16lbs. That is the major difference you are forgetting. Besides that just remember...

    Drysuit trim advise

It is sometimes normal. Depends on the type of suit and undergarments. If you have a looser suit, it could give you more buoyancy issues. Ankle weights work for some people, but I would recommend trying metal springs on fins instead of weights. Ankle weights can slide, prevent air movement to...

Which comes first? The gear or the certs?

Hey I am a college student as well and went to buy all of my gear (except tanks). It is very convenient to own, especially if you enjoy local diving. Though, if there is a club from which you can rent the same, quality gear consistently I think you should continue your training. My first gear...

    Scubapro worth the premium??

Hey I am not sure what type of diving you are doing, but I dive the Delta4/FDX 10 and have thought very highly of it. I can only compare to some other rental gear as it is the first reg I have ever owned, but had it in cold water and pretty good depth and felt no decrease in performance...

    More Dives or AOW??

Just to contradict, I went right from OW to AOW. I took a year off as you did and would have have been comfortable in the water without the supervision of an instructor. You build on skills in the AOW and although you do not have to take it, especially if you an experienced buddy to dive with...

    New reg, $600 budget

Oceanic Delta4 FDX10. I have dove the reg for two years now and have had it down to 37*F @100ft and have felt no reduction in breathing effort. Adjustable 2nd stage with venturi switch is very nice. It also automatically adjusts for set breathing efforts as you descend or ascend. Also, it...

    Task Overload

I agree with a few others here. Split the tasks and make sure you are both well aware of your tasks before the dive. One person takes the compass heading and the other monitors depth. This way if the compass individual is ascending or descending, the buddy just taps him/her and signals one...

    Correct Bouyancy Control Dry Suit

I am relatively new to drysuit diving as well, but I think using the suit just to alleviate squeeze is the way to go. I have never tried turning back the valve .5-1 turns as cldwdiver suggested, but I think I will try it. It seems to make sense to me.

    Putting on weight

I have found that flooding the suit takes care of the too warm problem. Be careful dressing, especially on a warm day. I found that if you get a little warm in a wet suit you can just flood it and you should cool back down. Although if you only diving in warm water (above 80) you would be...

    Mask fogging problem

Make sure when you scrub with toothpaste (that is what I used) you do it thoroughly! When I first got my mask it kept fogging. I sat down and scrubbed it for 5-10 minutes each lens. With a little spit I have not had a problem since.

Sorry to hear... I get nervous every time I big my camera down. I'm sure you will be fine and enjoy your trips!

    Best BC for big person

In regards to the initial post, I would also recommend a back inflate style of bc. I am also about the the same exact size as you and dive an Oceanic Excursion. It works great for me! (If you get one you might feel small, I am 6'3" 245 and I had to get a L, the XL was way too big!) Go to...

    Oceanic Delta 4 FDX10

Hey, I too have the Delta 4 FDX10 and have dove it below 100' and in water temperatures in the mid 30's (F). Have never had any issues with the reg at all. Make sure you you adjust the inhalation effort and flip the Venturi switch. That should not have caused the problem you mentioned, but it...
