    Trim weights

I would also add that I am horizontally trimmed with my legs crossed and my arms in. I am not head heavy, I am foot heavy.

    Trim weights

So what you are saying is that there does not exist a body type for which given the following equipment Al 80 Al backplate SS STA No ditchable weight neutrally bouyant would not allow the person to be horizontally trimmed? The fact is that if my quadriceps, hamstrings and calves were...

    I hate conforming...

Like anything this doesn't have to be true. A BP is simply a piece of metal, you can pay 50 or you can pay 150. Branding is probably irrelevant. My setup was as follows: AL Backplate fully rigged - 75 Halcyon Wing (LDS) - 200 SS STA - 40 Pocket from Wal mart - 6 I honestly don't feel...

    Is Halcyon price fixing?

Just as a counterpoint my Apeks regulator from leisurepro was not breathable when I purchased it, the LDS had to service it. On the other hand even after servicing by the LDS, the octo was not tightly attached and blew the O ring when I was going through my pre dive safety check.

What item of equipment was a waste of money?

$10 Tank boot, the tank still rolls like crazy in the trunk unless I brace it with other stuff. $75 ikelight flashlight with a fluorescent lamp. The light overall is too dim to be useful and too big to use as a backup. In addition the switch doesn't lock so turned on in my gear bag and ran...

    Weight belt alternative

The stainless steel might be too heavy. I am 5 9, 150 lbs. I am using an AL BP (2 pounds and a SS STA 5 pounds) and a 27# wing. I dive with no ditchable weight in freshwater and 4 pounds in salt water. You might want to check your buoyancy with your wetsuit, fins mask, booties and then add in...

    Trim weights

Maybe we are arguing the semantics of trim weights, but I don't see how this statement is necessarily true for all people with wildly different body types. Moving the tank is equivalent to not moving the tank and adding some amount of trim weights. If the amount of additional weight required is...

    DAN Report thoughts

The key problem with the statistics as mike pointed out in the original post is no one knows how many dives are being done. Asking for government regulation or changes in training policy (which would be expensive and involve risk) without knowing the frequency of accidents just doesn't make...

    Is Halcyon price fixing?

Setting a minimum price is not necessarily illegal. The idea of Vertical Price Restriction is mitigated by the Colgate Doctrine (do a google search on Colgate Doctrine). The Colgate Doctrine essentially says that in private enterprise an entity has the right to do business with whomever it...

    Is Halcyon price fixing?

What SCUBA mfg's are doing is not necessarily price fixing. I am not a retailer so I don't know exactly what goes on. I agree that price fixing occurs when the mfg and retailer agree on a minimum price. However the antitrust laws do allow a manufacturer to determine a price level (MSRP or...

    Is Halcyon price fixing?

Price fixing in the way we are talking about it is not illegal because the market we are discussing is not dominated by a few players. A manufacturer, may legally use whatever criteria necessary to determine who you sell products to (except where it breaks the law such as race, age, religion or...

    Need a pic of pocket

When you go look you will see what I mean, but all of the belt packs that I saw fit 2" webbing just right. The pocket that I got is big enought to put my slate in and is made out of cordura nylon. It doesn't have a brand, but if you go to the baggage section in target or walmart you should find...

    Need a pic of pocket

I couldnt stomach paying 40 for a pocket. I thought it was absolutely ridiculous. I went to target and bought a very cheap (5.99) pouch that slides onto the belt webbing of my harness. It took awhile to find one that was the size I wanted, but there are so many choices. The great thing is that I...

    I am going to KL/SG/Phuket

I ended up diving with Dive Asia (my friend picked them). On the way to the boat we picked up divers from a few other hotels but from other dive shops as well. I am not sure if that means that those other dive shops used dive asia or not, but it seemed that way. Everything was adequate. The boat...

Problem with my Pioneer 27# wing

SeaJay, you just have to decide what is important to you, jacket bc's or the transpac may not be wrong for you. My OW instructor said he was diving backplates ages ago (10+ years I think). He says he prefers diving the transpac now because the straps are more comfortable. He still does a lot of...

    Bali

I am in singapore right now. I leave for Thailand Monday-Wednesday and then KL for the rest of the week. The following week I will be in bali, then Hong Kong and back to the US. I am not sure if I will be able to dive in Bali, we are staying in Kuta beach and as I understand it the diving is...

    Marfan and diving

I have already done a lot of research and have seen that site before. Of course what they are saying makes sense, however there is no evidence. The articles aren't really research articles, they are simply case studies of individuals (anecdotal). I was hoping that someone might know of a...

    Suggestions for cheap wetsuit pockets?

I cannot justify paying 30-40 for cordura nylon pockets to attach to my wetsuit. Does anyone have a source from backpacking or other sports or activities that sells basically the same thing but for a reasonable price like $10. Some things that don't quite work are: 1) For $10 I can buy a...

    Can't get my trim right

I spent an hour in the pool this morning and discovered a few things. It turns out I am actually not overweighted with the backplate as I thought. I had never done a proper bouyancy check and it turns out that at 500 psi and an empty bladder I can just barely float with completely full lungs...
