    Bonne Terre Mine - 12/22/07

Not true. If I remember correctly, they don't want you to use the camera or light on your first trail. When I was there, on the 2nd and 3rd dives some of the other people in my group were taking pics and video(with the light).

    newb question....what is RAW?

I may be getting a new camera for U/W snapshots. I am leaning heavily towards the Canon A570IS. Someone mentioned that the A570IS can be 'hacked' to operate in 'RAW'. I've seen the term RAW thrown around in my short time in this corner of Scubaboard, but I'm not quite sure what RAW is (other...

Where was your first OW dive?

Haigh Quarry was where I did my checkout dives (May of '07). The first dive post-check outs, was in Sunset Lake ( a coal strip pit in Linton, IN.) I'm planing to make it to the ocean sometime in '08.

    Download from Veo 250 problem.

I have read through my manual and didn't see an answer to my question. I performed 3 dives yesterday. Today, I was attempting to download the data from the Veo 250. I went through the normal setup of connecting the Veo 250 to the computer. However, once my PC accessed my Veo, only dives #2...

    Bonne Terre Mine - 12/22/07

Back when I was certified (May '07), one of the assistant instructors in my class mentioned Bonne Terre Mine (BTM). The place described, seemed interesting, so I made it a point to get out to Bonne Terre Mine before the year was over. Today, I made good on the goal; I drove out by myself last...

How Do You Know Where To Go Diving And Whom To Book With?

I have a similar question, so I'll share the thread. I've not yet been diving in the ocean. Aside from determining what accommodations and/or dive operator to book with, how did you decide where you wanted to go in the first place? Just a very brief shuffle through any of my magazines and I...

So you don't go wet after the drysuit...

Cost is an issue for me. Right now, I don't want to spend the $ on a drysuit. However, I love my new found hobby and (so far) I won't let something like the water temperature decide when I will or won't go diving. I guess I'll keep diving my 7mm until my dive spots ice over. But everyone...

    Veo 250 and FLY time

Is it that the Veo 250 is much more conservative than the standard recreational dive planner? According to the RDP, one should not fly sooner than 12 hours after a single dive or 18 hours for multiple dives. I noticed that on my Veo250, the FLY time is always 24hours.

    Hidden Paradise 12/1/07...Brrrrrrr

I want to say thanks to fellow SB'ers Crpntr133 and Landlocked for an enjoyable, yet chilly dive at Hidden Paradise today. Prior to today, my co-workers have asked me if my diving season was over for the year, seeing as how this is my first year of diving, I didn't quite know how cold the...

Blue Springs, Shelbyville, IN 1st dive in IN

Well, despite looking at the 10-day weather forecast I think I might be at HP on the 1st. I also have an invite to dive at Mermet, but my schedule might accommodate HP better....will see as the week goes along.

Hidden Paradise, St. Paul, IN...also lost & found

That was the original plan, but I had to be back in Terre Haute by 6 so we changed plans at the last minute since Mermet is 'bout 3hours away. After taking the time of driving there and back into account I thought I'd really be pushing it to make it back to Terre Haute by 6 that day. If the...

Hidden Paradise, St. Paul, IN...also lost & found

Hey all, I was at Hidden Paradise for two dives. This was my first time diving at HP and I had a good time. We pulled up at 9:30 am and the lady attending to the office jokingly called us nuts for diving on such a chilly day. The air temp on the first dive was about 37-40....surface temp of...

Best time of year to dive Lake Superior

I dove in Bayfield, WI(Apostle Islands) this past summer at the end of June. At 70ffw the temp was 43 degrees(used 7mil), the 2nd dive of the day was to 20', where the temps were ~52 degrees. Visibility was ~30'. Both dive sites were well suited to a beginner like myself . I contacted Terry...

Availability of the Hydrooptix Mega 3.5DD Dive Mask

I am curious about the 3.5 DD too. I am in my mid 30's and my prescription for my contacts is -2.50 which doesn't fit me into their 'perfect fit' category. Mayb the 3.5DD would be a better fit for me.

    Cape San Blas.

I'm probably posting very prematurely, but I made my vacation plans for next summer earlier today. Next July, I'll be spending a week in Cape San Blas. Currently, I'm a new diver and I've only been in quarries and lakes up here in the midwest. July '08 is a long way off but I'm looking...

How cold is too cold for wetsuits?

Pat. Like you, I'm a new diver too. I bought myself a 7mil suit prior to my checkout dives, as the checkouts were going to be in Haigh Quarry at the beginning of May. I subsequently took my 7mil up to Lake Superior were the temps were 42F at 70', and I can't say I was uncomfortable in the...
