    Computers

Hi- I'm brand new to tech diving. Just completed advanced Eanx and Deco, looking to do Trimix in a couple months, and I'm curious as to what computers everyone here likes. I'm leaning towards a VR-3, I like the Cochrans, but I'm told you can't do gas switching "on the fly" with them, which seems...

    Alternative undergarments

Try these: http://www.weezle.co.uk/products/undersuits.htm My Puget Sound tech dive buddies swear by them. I'm going to get a pair before I start Trimix.

How deep have you gone and why ?

    151. Just wanted to go a little deeper on a wall in the San Juans. It was dumb, but it was really, really fun, too. Currently pursuing trimix cert so I can go to that depth safely.

    Are divers an arrogant bunch?

Well spoke! ;) Yeah, sure, there's lots of arrogant divers. So what? I'm a carpenter. The egos and opinions are pretty bad in my field, too. But I still live in a house. I love diving, and some of the divers I've met have been arrogant *******s- some of them even have the dive logs to...

    Did I "Bonk"?

Yeah, but you should know as well as anyone that there are tons of contributing factors w/ DCS, like dehydration, fatigue, and, I'm confident, adequate nourishment and blood sugar levels. If you're not going to be "padding" your dive profile with 100% on your safety stop, or diving eanx while...

200' to 250' Deep Dive at Sund Rock - Anything?

I have no firsthand knowledge, but when I was there over 4th of July, I met a local tech diver who was doing a solo 200' dive there. He told me he did them regularly, looking for 6 gills, so I guess there's something to look for/ at at those depths!

    Gear Selection - Be Brutal.

Hmmm. So you're diving single tank, right? But you want to go tech in the future, which means doubles. I agree with Andy, loose the Transpac and go Hogarthian plate/ wing combo. Do not make the same mistake I did, and try to use a doubles wing w/ a single tank adaptor. It will never be very...

    Pony bottle/alternate air

I just finished Advanced Nitrox/ Decompression training through TDI. Doubles and a 40 cf pony with 100% 02 for deco above 20 feet was SOP throughout the class. Except we call them "stage bottles."

Sixgill Shark Sighting @ Cove 2

I was one of the lucky divers that night. I'm still marvelling at the experience. The word "awesome" is overused these days, but that shark trully was awesome. Her grace and beauty were humbling, to say the least. I will NEVER forget the moment when Calvin flashed his light at me to get my...

    Where's our winter viz?

I dove cove 2 last night and Muk Sunday morning. Vis was not great at either one; 5-10 feet, maybe a bit more below 100'. And I had a great time on both dives. Saw baby octos, ling, cabezon, and just had fun. Actually, some of my favorite dives have been in marginal vis- it doesn't bother me too...

    Zak Jones

I didn't know Zak, but I know more than a few people who did know him. Here's a pretty good article regarding his death: http://www.browardpalmbeach.com/Issues/2006-11-23/news/feature_full.html

Diver in trouble at Leschi / Seattle

Not a word. I'm working on a house a block away from there right now- I've seen some commercial dive trucks parked there off and on. They must be working on the boats at the Marina.

Pro Plus 2 Surface Mode Screen View

Hmmm. My Oceanic does funny stuff sometimes. I can usually fix it by taking the battery out for a second and replacing it- a "hard reboot". Don't know offhand if the Proplus 2 has a user replacable battery.

Do people really get swallowed by whales?

You have to dive with me when you move back here.

MoD to pay £750,000 to family of navy officer killed in dive

"(the deceased) was just 27 when he took part in the "breath-hold" exercise at the navy's Defence Diving School at Hornsea Island, Portsmouth - only his third navy dive. " Sounds like he was doing a freedive? I mean, yeah, people can drown in an inch of water, sure.....and I can see how...

"Shadow Diver" vs "The Last Dive"

Well, that settles the matter as far as I'm concerned. Thanks!

"Shadow Diver" vs "The Last Dive"

I was also struck by this discrepency between the two accounts of the Rouse's deaths. I'd love to hear from Chatterton, Kohler, the CG rescue swimmer, or someone who was there.

How do you keep warm during SI when it is cold outside??

The right dive buddy can make a huge difference, I hear....

    for the newer divers ...

So, why don't we all just dive together, then? If a novice shows up, the mentors can fall on them like a pack of hunger-crazed hyenas. Or something. I'll play noobie for someone, if they're desperate for someone to mentor.
