The PADI PSD program / Request for action

I think we are agreeing on many of the same points Padi, training is the key. Big time. I was just offering some friendly advice. I can tell you that I have had the fortunate ability to travel around, meet, observe, and work with many many PSD teams in North America. I am all for anyone...

The PADI PSD program / Request for action

For us.., three years, 100 hrs bottom time, 100 PSD dives, trained PSD supervisor, signed off by the team leader as a suitable candidate. Then you can take the course.

The PADI PSD program / Request for action

Want a little advice.., if you are somewhat new to the PSD realm, take four or five years, get some good exposure and experience in the field doing the work and THEN start looking at your PSD Instructor cert. A year experience and 20 missions is a little light for being 'the guy'. Taking a...

    Public Safety Diving in Overheads

If we are diving in a "confined space' i.e. overhead environment we must do it on surface supplied air. If we are in the full length of our hoses and cannot go further, then we call it. If we call it, we are done. We are (in the Great White North) prohibited from turning to other 'teams' or...

    drysuits

I'm curious because I have not really played with DUI in our work environment, but does DUI provide breakthrough times for their suits...., on both PENETRATION and PERMEATION levels?? I know White's (as of a few months or so ago) only had penetration data. We want/need/require permeation data...

    drysuits

To answer your question Serdin and do my best to avoid a debate on the best suits to work in, I have two Vikings, a BARE, a Whites HAZMAT, a Whites Fusions and a crushed neoprene and a normal neoprene drysuit. We dive Viking anytime we work, but I dive whatever when 'play' diving. If you...

    Question of the day.....

I know bigger isn't always better but there are certain logistical issues that are present with bigger teams that are not present on smaller teams. I need to look at how other 'large' teams deals with such things is all. Trust me, it isn't a 'big dick' thing, I am just making inquiries on how...

    question for the pros

Here are the steps I would recommend(I hope I answer your questions logically but I am still only on my first coffee of the day..... 1. Go to the local PD and find out if them using divers is true. Get a contact name. 2. Locate a dive shop and take your Open Water SCUBA course 3. Take a...

Possible death on the oriskany Nov 14, 2009

Good catch bleeb.., that is why I should stay off the computer when drinking Rum. The 1.8mph is accurate speed, the 2kts was my bad. I screwed up the conversion (flipped the 1.1 to 1 ratio) to compare it to the knots needed to move a body. My mistake all the way. Didn't mean to hijack the...

Possible death on the oriskany Nov 14, 2009

It was done with divers in full gear...., trust me. Either that or someone pulled a joke on me and I swam with gear on for nothing. AS for pubmed, My 400 and 800 swim times put me at over 3.2km/hr and I'm not a good swimmer.., below average in our circles. It take roughly a 1.5 kt current...

Possible death on the oriskany Nov 14, 2009

I don't have any info on the acccident but want to comment on a couple areas. For future reference in your own mind because some have sort of agreed to disagree.... In the police diving world studies have been done relating to speed of currents(It has to do with the amount of current to...

Where is your stand in the controversy surrounding the method whereby the search line

Our federal regulations require a harness that can lift a diver out of the water, which is covered by this harness c/w crotch strap. We use to have a separate harness but went away from it simoply because what we had now suited what the requirement was. One of the big points is like dittrimd...

Where is your stand in the controversy surrounding the method whereby the search line

We use the Halcyon as our harness unless under ice or diving surface supplied air at which point we use a full dedicated harness. We use a locking Carabineer on the line and only use a quick disconnect when diving in current.

    Tethering Divers

If we are sending one diver to check out a sea chest or specific area, we send them on a line. If we are sweeping an entire hull.... provided a diver on the keel can see ambient light to see their exit, we'll send numerous divers in on a 'half-necklace'. They have a line to assist in dressing...
