    Tethered Diving Signals

We went from the OATH to a system very similar to Bridges a few years ago. After the intitial "it's too complicated" comments came out, once people got use to it, it is every bit as easy to remember as the good ol' OATH. We are a little different though... 2+2+2 is for the safety diver to...

    How does your team respond?

We gotta?? Sorry, no quick response here. We are strictly recovery. With team members spread over 150 miles, it is impossible for us to be there in time. There is a set of rescue divers with the Coast Guard who are straight rescue. When they fail, we are called in for recovery and...

Does your team dive in buddy teams or solo w/ waiting support?

If a diver is on a life-line..(which is most of the time) we are in alone with the lines and comms for communication. If the diver is free swimming..., (sledding, hull/pier searches etc) there are buddy teams (or several teams) in the water at the same time. I can't think of a single good...

    Science Project

Just wanted to put something out there for diving teens. My diving daughter needed to do a Science Fair Project so she decided to do "the absorption of colour underwater" She did up a laminated rainbow of colours on a slate. We dove to 100' and she held it and I took a photo, then we repeated...

    Vehicle Recovery Problem

we always use a working line when bring any gear into the water, be it cable and hooks, or a lift bag or whatever. We have to keep it literally idiot-proof. Diver swims down with a nested working line, ties it to the car, follow the line back to shore ensure it is free from obstructions, hook...

    BCD Choice for PSDs

We used the Zeagle 911's for a number of years. We had issues with the softer back part as we use a 30 cu ft pony bottle attached to our main tank. The off-center weight on a soft back caused the tanks to lay over. Coupled with the fact that we use a Kirby Morgan block mounted on the BC for...

    Underwater Forensics

Mark, First off let me be picky here..., because I am one of those people that is picky on using proper terms. (fins, not flippers..., that sort of thing). The reason I mention it is because if you find it, you'll have to enter it in court and I've seen defence lawyers try to throw the odd...

    A reporter's perspective

We do not let media shawdow a call either, for the same reasons as Gary stated. But we do not treat them like the enemy either. They have a job to do, just like the rest of us. I remember on one call out after doing a briefing the divers and tenders were getting the gear ready and I had a few...

    What are the drawbacks?

Yes, you certainly can. We use a "Kirby Morgan Block" with redundant/independant 30cu ft pony bottle. (not Steve, but answered anyway)

    Diving in early pregnancy ?

My wife did several dives with me and then we found out she was expecting.* I had a contact that is a hyperbaric Doctor about what we may have done.* His advice for diving while pregnant was the best I ever heard....** "There is not evidence it is doing any harm...., but FOR SURE it is not doing...

You know you're a scuba diver when...

... when you can look at a female diver after a dive, still in her 7mm neoprene drysuit, salt-crusted hair and 'rim-face' from her mask.., and you say to yourself.(and mean it) .., "Now THAT'S sexy!!"

Finding stuff that could be evidence

My (our) preference is that if you have a float or a pelican to mark the sight and call us. And we always want people to call in cars and or guns they see as well. I always tell people I'd rather have 50 'false alarms' than have someone not call in a single 'case-breaker'

    Underwater evidence recovery bags

Are there team testimonials about using your products? From looking at your product catalogue there seem to me to be a few issues that would prohibit me from getting them. I'm just curious about how they have been reviewed in the field.

Instructing ERDI and the Open Water?

ERDI Instructors can teach basic Police diving at various levels based on your teaching levels and specialties. To teach basic O/W under their banner you probably need to be an SDI instructor as well as that is where their OW certs come from. I'm not even sure you can become an ERDI instructor...

    Private vs. Public Dive Teams

The world is dangerous place..., we can;t even stay in bed to be safe..., soooo many people die in bed too!! The question is not about what is and is not dangerous.., because even a dive to 35' is dangerous..., the biggest thing is "management of risk". What makes PSDs different is their...

    Private vs. Public Dive Teams

As far as the expense for recovering bodies goes..., up here in the great white north, any death that occurs outside of a doctors direct care is considered a homicide until proven otherwise.., the recovery of the body is simply part of an ongoing investigation. I have been on my fair share of...
