    Dumaguete/ApoIsland/Dauin or Moalboal in Nov

I live in Moalboal, one of my favorite places for weekend trips is APO ISLAND(easy to reach). If the weather improves(it has been really windy for the last 4 days) my friend and our families are going to APO for a few days starting on the 6th of August.... We normally stay at the APO Island...

Dive Trip to Philippines in Oct 12

From a "non" diving perspective, the mainland of PALAWAN is a great choice, there is alot to see and do, much of it is still pristine, the Under Ground River is fun(if you visit on a slow day... it is not really a dive destination for experienced divers.. you will have plenty to do for three...

    I'm the Pariah again

Are you sure your not a paid SCUBA BOARD "thread generator" ? :) Seriously though, Hang in there and over time you will be both experienced enough to help ensure little to no buddy seperation occurs, and how to deal with well meaning albeit often times gruff Boat Captains and DMs/Deck hands...

What are good/not as good SCUBA equipment brands?

Over the years I have dived with equipment from every major brand marketed in the US and Asia. I have never used a reg or BCD (in good repair), that left me thinking it was a real dog. My current personal Favorites are: Mask ---Mares Fins ----Scuba Pro Reg ----I thought long and hard about...

Red Light on my Strobe stays on but light wont charge...

Hi, I finally decided to use my second sea life camera and strobe yesterday. It worked just fine except my batteries did not last for more than 20 shots.... Today I used it again this morning and I got off 6 shots on freshly charged batteries and then the red "charged" light would come on...

How NOT to dive Monad Shoal in Malapascua. Is a Thresher sighting worth the damage?

It is easy to critique anything and everything. I think that the graphic is a fine tool. A more generic/nameless board would be even better. Maybe even something placed at the boat landings and even on the Mainland where divers sometimes wait for transportation would be a great thing...

How NOT to dive Monad Shoal in Malapascua. Is a Thresher sighting worth the damage?

One thing that could help is the creation of a monad shoal etiquette graphic similar to the whale shark graphic from SSI Of course specific to the Monad Shoal eco system/environment... Cheers, Roger

How NOT to dive Monad Shoal in Malapascua. Is a Thresher sighting worth the damage?

I agree this behavior is damaging to the reef. I have been to Malapascua several times and all of the briefings that I ever received, directed me to "go negative" rest on my knees to help ensure our and the host of other "groups" did not frighten the Thresher. I believe this poor behavior...

    The Diving Lifestyle (for Parents)

Tom, if you are interested in doing some warm water destination diving, many resorts can arrange baby sitters/nannies. you might also consider joining a local club as there are normally others who already have working arrangements that you can emulate or share.. In my personal experience I...

    PADI Does Revoke Certifications

Hi Tracy, Sorry to hear about your training fiasco, and I am especially sad to hear about a bad instructor out there issuing fraudulent/unearned certs... PADI really does investigate these types of complaints as they of course tarnish the Brand. Let me make sure I understand right, you...

SCUBA Instructor as a career for a poor fellow questions.

It probablly will not help you get out of debt, In fact it may help you get into more debt as you must buy lots and lots of things to make it from Open Water Diver to Instructor. Diving does not usually make anyone rich..... Cheers, Roger

    What to call it??

We (The American groups I have been associated with) have always used the term "gear"..... But it commonly refers to everything including MFS... Cheers, Roger

    Lost my dive group

Sorry to hear about what a crappy dive you had...... Since no one really adhered to the "search for no more than X minutes" then surface philosophy, you guys were doomed to failure due to the conditions..... I think it is best to ask the question during the dive briefing if something/anything...

    Tanks and air consumption

Now that you know how to figure out bouyancy and proper weighting, you should have confidence that you can do with any size/style tank you use. If it is my money and I had what sounds like fairly "high" air consumption, I would opt for the larger tank and spend the first dive figuring out my...

    Shore diving advice needed

My Dentist in Virginia(Dr. Tuggle) invented some beach carts/rooleez wheels which make travesrsing the beach easy... I have dived the location that you spoke of and the problem with where your diving is: sometimes the current moves you so far along the shore line that you might need a...

Would you drain tank below 500psi to extend your safety stop?

Would I go below 500 PSI to extend my "safety stop" : NO Would I go below 500 PSI to loiter around the shallows of the reef: maybe Have I ever modified my dive plan to observe something interesting in the shallows of the reef: yes In general we always plan to start our Safety Stops at...

    Divemaster in Philippines

One of the nice things about the philippines is that you are able to visit many sites during a lengthy stay... this would be great for working on video... I live in Cebu/Moalboal and can "easily" get to many different dive locations(Dumaguette/Malapascua/Alona/Cabilao/Mactan/Siquijor) in a day...
