Would you dive with no knife

A good line cutter, wire cutters and knife are part of my standard kit. I always have 2 of the 3 with me with the biggest issue being to remember to stow the knife in checked luggage.

    Hi Everybody :)

Welcome to the board. Marine life is abundant and varied world wide, as are costs. Airfare may be the biggest actual cost :-) Some recommendations: Greater Barrier Reef: Live aboards are good diving values Cozumel: Get a all inclusive package, my perference is Scuba Club Roatan...

    Maybe I shouldn't do it?

Cold is the bane of all divers. Some locations actually do open water certification dives with Dry Suits. Dry Suits can be a great investment if you dive cold water frequently. I waited for until after 50 dives, finding 50% of them to be below 58f it was time to upgrade from 7mm Get...

    Maybe I shouldn't do it?

Welcome to SB, and longer term the sport! All the advice so far is solid. Fear/Flight is normal response but as you've already dove, with sharks no less, the hard part is over. Reading the Accident Reports is like a getting your news from a single source... CNN/FOX ;-) I too started by...

Why Do DSLRs not have shutter lag?

Mike does a good job explaining the why they are faster at storing the results. Physically storing the image is only part of the issue otherwise the same laggy camera would also lag with video capture, which isn't always the case. So you can't ignore the the time required to do compression...

    Help??

Air2 and 1 less hose does make for lighter and easier to manage travel kit and seems well suited for typical recreational diving. I have one my BC. However, if you intend to do more technical dives, like Caveren / Cave / Wreck you will need an Octo on a long hose anyway. I have a long hose...

    question for drysuit divers

Water temp determines if I'm diving dry or wet... below 70f I prefer dry. Delta air/water = +/- 20 degrees of water temp The only times I'm really bothered by air temp is when it's too fraking warm. Going from 98f air temp to a 43f water temp below thermals... *shiver*

    Tipping for diving class?

Right or wrong I've never tipped for class. Like dive equipment it's required and I treat it as such. I would note that I trained at the same LDS I purchase 90% of my gear so it's repeat business for him which I'm sure is more appreciated Once on dive trips, well I'm there to have fun and...

What Makes a Good Dive Buddy?

Good topic for basic scuba, though your solo diver comment is miss leading as it's not taboo... it's just not fit for this forum. To me I like a buddy who: Is relatively the same skill level When diving for fun I perfer not to have to teach class. Likewise I don't don't want to feel like...

Need (lots of) help on DIY light

The doc was good though a "Dummies guide to wiring" would help even though I understood 80%. Questions: In Brads circuit, the switches would need to be rated to handle the 10A at 4.1 volts? If so, I've yet to find a Reed or Piezo or MOSFET that would allow for a sealed unit. Got...

Honest opinions on equipment that won't break the bank

If any parts need replacing the price will go up quickly. Look around locally in the 300-400 price range and you might be surprised.
