Is a marine head a "must" for you?

Jealous of everyone here who has never needed one, but I was very grateful to have a marine head present on a boat out of pompano about a year ago! Crohn's sucks!

    Nautilus Lifeline Radio

So far I've been happy with mine, although thankfully I haven't had to test it out yet .I was able to snag a new one from a surf shop in Canada for a great price. Gotta love our neighbors to the north!

    Nautilus Lifeline Radio

Thanks for catching that! Yes, I was referencing the Gen 1 units. I wasn't aware they had put that limitation into the second gen. Another reason to buy a refurb gen 1 if you can!

    Nautilus Lifeline Radio

Setting the MMSI just identifies the radio as belonging to you and tells folks who they're looking for. It won't discrimate when sending out an emergency signal and will in fact go to any boats in the area. Upon receiving the distress signal, the radios on board these boats will automatically...

    Immunosuppresents and Diving

Thank you for the info! The more I learn, the more I realize that a lot of my choices going forward are going to be a question of risk vs. reward.

    Immunosuppresents and Diving

I was recently diagnosed with Crohn's Disease and have just started using Humira to treat it. Gastrointestinal symptoms have never affected my diving in the past and in fact, there is research supporting the use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy to treat the symptoms I do suffer from. However, my...

    Wetsuit Thickness (2mm vs 5mm)

I've found that the perfect compromise is a hooded 3mm farmer john two piece. You end up with a 6mm core and 3mm arms and legs. That keeps me comfortable in a pretty wide range of tropical temps, and if it gets too warm I can always ditch the top.

    I found CO in tanks

Thanks for the link. I do, however, the levels had not raised significantly enough in my apartment to trigger an alarm yet. Just for good measure, after this happened, I did buy another one anyway. I took the 'ol scuba approach and figured redundancy can never hurt. Interestingly enough, of the...

    I found CO in tanks

As someone who just had the fire department respond to my apartment last weekend for a CO leak, I am acutely aware of the danger, and just how suddenly a problem can manifest. In my case, it was a rusting boiler that partially collapsed and wasn't allowing for proper ventilation. Luckily I...

    Alternative to YS-250 Pro?

I've been using Panasonic Eneloop Pros in my YS-D2s with good results. Quick recycle time and generally more capacity than I can use in a day of diving. For what it's worth, they're the same batteries I use topside for my off camera flashes.

Looking for ideal BCD for small female, back inflate

I'll second this recommendation. Hydros ticks all your boxes minus the pocket, but you can easily add one to it. It's a great bcd and so comfortable that you'll forget you're wearing it.

Blurry vision underwater is due to pupil dilation, which can be controlled to see as if wearing mask

A mirror is probably an easier solution. This is super interesting and makes a lot of sense if you think about focal length and the pupil as the eye's apeture. Thanks for sharing!

    LCHF or Ketogenic Diet

I am a big fan of the Keto diet. I used it initially to drop weight for my wedding and managed to drop 25 lbs in a couple months. I also felt great while on it. Tons of energy, great endurance, and good performance in the gym. Carb cravings stopped after a couple weeks and I found the food...

Scubapro Hydros Pro BCD - Monoprene attachment hole ripped

I've done shore dives with my Hydros pro with a steel 130 without issues, including slinging that beast on one shoulder at a time. I do always get a little nervous about it though.
