    The Big Secret...

If you want government regulation, by all means encourage idiots to dive without certification.

    Diver accident in Michigan

I, too pray for your wife and send congratulations to you. You did your best, and did, as far as I can see, enough to get the job done. One thing I think I would have done differently (remember, I'm a pro, and my wife wasn't involved.....things get muddy when it's family...) from what you...

    How Can This Be!

Sure you would. If you really need the help, you'll take whatever you can get. She'll probably just get herself killed is all. I'm laughing at the whole boat full of experts who couldn't figure out that her problems stemmed from her inability to equalize the air spaces in her eyewear.....

    New Experience in Pond

As a SCUBA instructor and an attorney, my two cents are: this situation is exactly why we have professional divers and insurance companies to pay them.

What's the use in doing that?

I haven't checked the Standards lately, and I could be wrong, but my understanding is that, unless you're a PADI Divemaster (with insurance), you weren't DM'ing the class, at least as far as PADI is concerned. So, if he was relying on you to increse the allowable student-instructor ratio, he...

    fustrated w/ anxiety level

I have to agree with a lot of what has already been posted so far. Why lower than 40 feet? In the tropics, some great (and sometimes, some of the absolute BEST) diving is in 20-30 fsw. That said, when vis is clear like it can be out here, you can get to 80 feet and think you're at 30...

    More deaths at Saipan's Grotto

I dove the grotto twice this weekend. It was fun. In today's paper, it relates that a near-drowning victim was taken to the hospital, but ends, cryptically, with something like "it's unclear if she's still in the hospital..." I have to think it doesn't look too good for her.

    More deaths at Saipan's Grotto

I'll take a crack at answering a few of barky's questions. Who should dive at the Grotto? Not trying to be flip here, and no disrespect to the recently deceased, but my answer is "someone who isn't gonna freak out." If you've never been there, the Grotto is a great dive. It is, however...

I've heard both versions, too. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I have a Cobra, Stinger and D9. Happy with all three.

Hi every one I got in the pool again.

Congrats! Looks like we're gonna have to start saving a seat on the dive boat for you soon!

This is going to be bitter sweet.

Been reading the dirtbag's (ok, alleged dirtbag's) online blog. Seems like he was a scuba diver too.

Abandoned at Sea - Sun June 26, 2005 - The Ibis, Dania Beach, Hollywood Fl.

When diving the GBR, we had to sign in and out of the water, and the boat didn't move until everyone had signed out. I thought that was excellent. Also, I like the idea of getting plastic numbers clipped to each diver's bcd, and the boat doesn't move until all the numbers are back on the...

Do you wear a snorkel while boat diving?

I'm not cave certified, but I would guess that they're fairly pointless there. Other than that, I seem to be in the minority. Every dive, my snorkel is attached to my mask. Just me, though. Whatever floats your boat....
