Gypsy moth just got renamed. Kaffir lime continues to be offensive. The dik-dik has been proposed to be renamed the they/their. By me, just now. As has been mentioned, some of the names were changed to appease the chronically offended and not the group affected. Slavery and territorial wars...

From my gallery here. Uploaded in 04 but likely happened before that. A medium goliath tried to play tug of way with this mutton snapper. I had foolishly clipped my stringer to me for a swim to the next pocket of fish. Drydock off Jax in 130ish, one of the most amazing dives, a veritable aquarium.

Where exactly did I post this premise? You yourself provided limited data that does indeed indicate they eat fish primarily once adult. At least the ones in the study you provided as evidence of a primarily crustacean diet you initially asserted. You can't pick and choose to delete posts or...

So much koolaid on both sides of the renaming. There's a lot worse animal names out there both common and scientific. I use them interchangeably depending on the crowd. Old guys ( anyone older than me) occasionally don't even know it's changed.

Pe Pete, I had one move in to one of the isolated coral heads off Little Torch and follow me like a 200 pound puppy, he let me tickle them out and any escapees were his. Was there last time I dove but was significantly larger.

Every year those scientists drop strings of fish traps to collect samples to determine fish populations. Traps that are considered to indiscriminate to be used by recreational or commercial fishermen except in very limited circumstances and only for seabass. From Texas to North Carolina...

I've done nothing of the sort. I've proved the primarily crustacean diet claim is false in 34 goliaths in Brazil from 2005 to 2010. Thats how science actually works as opposed to what's going on in this thread. Extrapolating results that mimic personal beliefs from limited data isn't...

Big bang, age of the universe, size of the universe, composition of dark energy or matter, red shift of receding galaxies, number of planets inthe solar system, efficacy of the various nostrums re rona...ad nauseam. Science is dynamic, occasionally local and always subject to revision.

Arguing marine biology with a marine biologist, precious. Using the classic "appeal to authority " logical fallacy, priceless. Basing management practices on a species found in 8 states covering 10s of thousands of square miles using a couple of hundred square miles of sporadic coverage done...

Pretty sure FWC will be keeping tabs on usage on modify number of tags baes on it. Also publicly trying to subvert the system will likey only make matters worse as fishermen already distrust the regulatory process and will use posts like this to validate their position.

    Bad scuba advice you've received

    1. It is not KISS 2. It is not the same price as 02 sadly 3. For those without a mix cert, it would be another $K+ in classes In a perfect world I'm with you, 400x40cuft is mighty pricey tho. Thats NDLish diving, extending bottom time would be probably double. Love to use a rebreather...

Tri-mix for a 100' dive. Doubles for NDL. Side mount for back injuries. Wearing a knife on your leg. Split fins in current.

    Taboo Decompression

Disclaimer, please do everything to prevent DCS so this post is moot. Solo, remote and extreme profiles are unnecessarily risky. As someone who has actually done IWRs on people before on a remote boat instead of reading about them here are some tips. 1. Use a FFM 2. Use a very sturdy down...

    what happened with George Irvine?

George and many of the WKPP pioneers were far different to experience in person vs. the internet. Never heard anything but encouragement from sny of them. Along with Dick Rutkowski, Tom Mount and the rest of the mixed gas early adopters changed diving as we know it. It wasn't until they found a...

Ok. Who peed in the kiddie pool?

There are about a dozen NOAA and state research vessels transiting these waters multiple times a year using a scientific instrument called a CTD that measures temp as well as other conditions every ten feet Thousands of these are deployed every year for more than 50 years. The data is free and...
