Probably the regular backplate will be ok for you, though I don't know if there is any real negative with the short one. I was advised against the heavy sta only because it is less modular than other ways of adding weight. You can use a steel tank, or get these weight pockets and slide them...

It seems like you could probably use a 30 but I read in another thread that the 45 has similar trim characteristics. Still, it seems that if there is a slight difference in drag maybe the 30 is good if it is most appropriate for your size. I am not sure about this, in the other thread some...
