    Adjusting weights for sling bottle?

Ideal? Only you can decide that for yourself. You need to sit down and run through the calculations to make an estimate of how much gas you would need in an emergency. Be certain to be conservative i.e. use an elevated SAC rate in the calculation, a low ascent rate, build in time at the bottom...

Stiffness of Jetfins Compared to Mares Avantis

Thanks Kidspot! Tis very much appreciated. :kiss2::D

Stiffness of Jetfins Compared to Mares Avantis

They're made by IST. I don't care about how well they do or don't perform because they were super cheap (about 1/3 the price of Jets) but I am still curious though. Have you by any chance tried out the Hollis F1s yet?

Stiffness of Jetfins Compared to Mares Avantis

Good choice Nemrod, I love my Avantis. They are amazing fins! The only thing is you need strong legs to get any sort of useful work out of them but if she can keep up with you she must have strong legs. ;)

    Adjusting weights for sling bottle?

+1 Everyone told me that an AL40 would simply disappear in the water but I only half believed them thinking they were exaggerating. That is ... until I started diving with one. You will forget it is even there; you will not notice it! I can't imagine that an AL19 is any different. No need...

Stiffness of Jetfins Compared to Mares Avantis

Is anyone in the position to compare Jetfins and Mares Avanti 3x fins for me? I'm specifically interested in how they compare in terms of flexibility. I currently have a pair of jetfin clones (not made by ScubaPro) and they compare very linearly to the Avantis. They have vents so it is easier...

Pony attached to main cylinder or No?

Reminds me of that quip about divers being the only men who brag about their small SACs ... :rofl3:

Since we're fascinated diver pee habits...

Analogies are fun ... let me do one too! Its kind of like diving to a depth you are comfortable diving to. It could be 10m, 12m, 15m, 25m or even 60m ... a whole range of differing degrees of depth! My point is (and you are more than welcome to disagree with me but don't use flawed analogies)...

Since we're fascinated diver pee habits...

Now this is really being too clever for your own good. :D ;) As a mathematician you will know that there is a HUGE difference between 'the limit as you approach zero' and 'a really, really, really, really small number'. 'Not much of an issue' does not mean so infinitesimally small as to mean...

Pony attached to main cylinder or No?

I just want to re-emphasize what Ron L said here and encourage you to try both. What you wrote in your first post leads me to think that you either have never tried a sling or had it set up incorrectly because a slung pony is anything but cumbersome. It is easy to see why you might think that...

    Low Pressure Bell

This is probably a gimmick rather than a potential accepted 'norm'. Sorry but I don't know of the regulator you are looking for. :blinking:

Changing BC pull dump to elbo

Was that not because people were repeatedly yanking on the hoses to use the pull dump? :blinking:

    Divemaster touching me

I'm guessing that that was his point. He was using irony (most people would probably call it sarcasm but, unless he was trying to be a jerk, it was irony) to put across his message that he feels the OP has to take some responsibility by standing up for herself. You can't hide behind laws or...

    Octo vs no octo

You might also want to consider the bit I highlighted. The air in your tank will neither expand nor contract as you ascend (or descend). Saying that the air inside expands or contracts implies that the air is changing volume. In order to do this the vessel holding it has to change volume too and...

    Painting a Tank

I know this post is old but I just want to point out that this colouring only holds in South Africa where pressurised cylinders fall under SABS legislation. In America, where cylinders fall under the jurisdiction of DOT, there will be different legislation. As far as I am aware, there is no...

    Exceeding Regulator depth rating

The key part is the part which I bolded. All that means is that the regulator has been shown to meet CE standards under testing conditions. It doesn't mean that it won't work deeper or that it will breathe badly deeper ... only that Aeris, Atmos and Oceanic haven't forked over loads and...

    Pet peeves of SCUBA diving

My pet peeve is people who make a noise underwater. This can be with a tank banger, rattler, quacker ... whatever. I hate it! Hatesssss it I tell you! Those and students who don't follow instructions underwater (although they do have an excuse) are what makes me chew through my mouth pieces ...

Requirements for becoming a Dive Master then Course Director

Ah, okay. That's good to know. To actually answer to your question ... oops ... to qualify to become a PADI DM you must be 18 years of age and have logged 20 dives. By the time you complete your DM cert you must have logged 60 dives. Instructor is 100 dives and have been diving for 6...

Requirements for becoming a Dive Master then Course Director

Going from an Open Water (OW) to a Course Director (CD) is a HUGE leap! These guys are talking about going from OW to Instructor being a lot of work, but going from Instructor to CD is even more. So from OW to CD is ... its just ... its just huge. Its fully doable in a few years but do as Tammy...

How does the table math work?

Okay ... it might be possible with a lot of hard work to interpret the above differently but I read it as saying pretty much: 'Don't bother with learning deco theory, just plug numbers into your computer and follow them blindly.' That said ... yes, there has been a lot of positive discussion...
