Ease of deco from He based gases...

In the "International TextBook of Mixed Gas Diving" Lettnin says that Helium is not absorbed as easily as nitrogen into the slower tissues and that is what makes it easier to decompress from... It really makes a lot of sense to use the mix.... just expensive! Plus I will have to dive self...

Ease of deco from He based gases...

So...... in deco with triox does it do you any good to switch to an intermediate gas (say 50/50) or should you stay on mix until you hit the O2? It sounds like it is a good idea to use both mixes. I do not mind a longer deco as long as it is a safer one, and it sounds like the jury is still out...

What is your favorite BC and why?

Get a ranger and an annual pass to your local quarry. The ranger has lots of features but is still simple and looks sharp kind of "pseudo tech" if you will.. check out leisure pro for a great price.... the quarry pass is for you to work on skills... I would suggest hold midwater stops and...

The great big, all-inclusive Leisure Pro note

I have bought gear from them and diveinn with no problems, but I research what I buy before I buy it as well.... both have been very dependable.... diveinn's prices have increased a little. I think it is due to the weakness of the dollar right now... I once bought a TX50 from them for $145 due...

    Tusa Imprex II

I was considering buying this computer as a simple air deco one.... what is it's limit on deco.. 30ft? 30 minutes or what??

    Zeagle Ranger Power Inflator Care

My inflator on ranger has been problematic for the last couple of years. The O-ring keeps slipping out of the LP connection and bubbles come out of it. I switched to the Octo inflator and have not had the problem. I never thought about using armour all on it but if armour all is petroleum it...

    ureter stent and diving

Oh man that must hurt... I feel for you! I hope it all works out. It is hard to find a doctor who is knowledgable about diving (especially technical diving) I live near Duke and have participated in several DAN studies and I can tell you that their knowledge on the subject is limited and for...

Which is it- 60fpm or 30fpm for ascent??

Why do they teach new divers how to ascend by telling them a rate? why not just say something like stop every ten feet for 30 seconds to a minute or something a little more tangible than (60 fpm)..... slow=good fast=bad, it is just that simple especially in recreational diving....

2nd Dive Deeper -- Is this the new recommendation?

Some would call this "reinventing the wheel".... It just sounds dangerous to me, plus what advantage do divers get out of it?? But hey if they're doing it in mexico who am I to questions it??? :flusher:

    Nitrox After 45

I use those good ol' algebra skills from high school to calculate the blending pressures and then I drain the bottle, put in the right amount of O2 V-E-R-Y C-A-R-E-F-U-L-L-Y, let it sit in a cool place for a couple of hours, measure the pressure again and adjust as necessary, take it to the...

    O2 at 80/20 or 100?

you could switch to a LP steel stage like the OMS 45's, that would solve most of your fill problems. if you always have a full O2 bottle on hand you should be able to get close to that 2400 psi mark. but your right for the average joe 80/20 is easier to mix.... I still think O2 is just safer.

    Deco Stop times

Ease of deco from He based gases...

Recently a couple of agencies have been teaching normoxic trimix or triox (30/21 mix) as the proper gas for use on dives in the 100-180ft range. While I understand the advantages as far as narcosis goes I have been a little intrigued by the fact that some have said that it is easier to...

    100 % O2 breathing at safety stop

Personally I would ALWAYS account for my O2 exposure no matter how slight.. survival rates on underwater tox hit are VERY LOW! O2 on your hang is a good idea though! get some dive software and run some scenarios.... the exposure should not be that great... after 6 dives on air with 100% O2...

    Nitrox After 45

Nitrox is safer all around for everyone... no doubt about it. It's expensive from most shops but I got a whip from www.northeastscubasupply.com and some aviator grade O2 from my local welders supply and now I mix my own for cheap..... cheaper than a chamber ride, thats for sure!

    fat folks and diving

Physical fitness is the key here I think. I'm fat but I'm in good health otherwise. Deco is a little risky but you can plan it so that you have an acceptable safety margin. If your a recreational diver it most likley won't be a problem. Personally I ride a bike about 30 minutes 4 times a week...

    O2 at 80/20 or 100?

the depth you can hit the mix is irrelevant as far as efficiency of the gas goes. O2 at 20 feet has a higher partial pressure (all that matters) than 80/20 at 30 feet so the pressure gradient between the gas you inhale and the gas leaving your lungs (nitrogen) is the greatest on O2 at 20...

    Mares regs?

I own a Mares Nikos and several Apeks regs.... I love the mares but do not trust it in deep water...its a good travel rec wreck but if you waana go deep or cave go with the Apeks... moneys the same and the reg has a better track record... bottom line I think you should fir your need! Hey...
