    Bottom Mix & Deco

I am a long time air diver as far as the caves go and recently have been interested in using 34% as my bottom mix ( I use O2 for decompression) if I do this do I REALLY decrease my chances of DCS? my typical run times are around 70 minutes or so and the depth averages about 60ft.... I never dive...

    Very high PPO2

I am working from memory here so forgive me if I am a little off but the US Navy tables have a section called "extreme exposure" and it goes from 1.61 to 2.4 (I think).. anyway, I believe a 2.0 exposure can be tolerated for about 30 minutes without risk of seizure... Now, thats not a SUGGESTION...

ATTN: do yourselves a favor and dump/forget those split fins. pay $45 and get some rockets or jets and forget about all that namby pamby cr@p.... its just a hook to get your money! if you want some "pretty" fins get some aqualung blades.... it used to be that when your fin got a tear in it...

    Fin Poll

Personally, I wear blades in the ocean and rockets (w/ heel springs) in the caves and quarry... I like the rockets because they are small and have some uumpf to them, also they are basically bullet proof. blades give me good air consumption and a lot of power and speed when I need it (like in...

Ease of deco from He based gases...

the consensus here is that helium based mixes are atleast as easy as nitrogen to decompress from and that they tend to be easier given the right circumstances.... My question ,as always, is if using these gases improves safety and it seems like a "YES" in this discussion... am I right or...

Ease of deco from He based gases...

Does anyone have any links to the articles on diving helium as if it was not there??? why would someone risk flying after diving? it is unnecesssary...

The great big, all-inclusive Leisure Pro note

Leisure pro sells the same gear at better prices... period.. the rest is dive industry politics. My LDS can't even tighten the knobs on my doubles correctly... and they say leisure pro is ripping people off..... :coke:

    Leisurepro transgressions

Leisure pro sells great gear at great prices.. period.... the rest is just dive shop/dive industry politics and mumbo jumbo.... I wish they would stop crying, step up and try to compete with leisure pro... but they know they cannot.... www.scubastore.com ain't bad either!

The great big, all-inclusive Leisure Pro note

    Carter Open or Halcyon Closed?

I use the halcyon bag for drift deco and emergency... and it's nice because it won't dump but it has a few drawbacks: 1. it's a pain in the neck to inflate fully in shallow water, you have to use your inflator hose because you cannot blow enough air into it..there is something about...

Ease of deco from He based gases...

He's right. I just noticed I got the numbers backwords.... 21/30 is the mix in question here.... good catch

    Guaranteed Aurgument....

OKay, I understand that the blood supply density allows off gassing but what about the so called "slow tissues" the ones that have very little blood supply, surely they are more effected?? It just seems like there are too many variables to be able to generate tables that fit everyones...

    Guaranteed Aurgument....

If the time it takes to decompress from a dive is related to how saturated your tissues are then why does a 150lb man and a 190lb man have the same deco obligation from similiar profiles? shouldn't the larger man have a longer one? even if their body fat is the same, the larger man has more of...

    O2 at 80/20 or 100?

O2 can be a double edged sword, that is true. But if you plan the dives conservatively than it should not be an issue. The CNS exposure does increase with the use of O2 but the length of the stop decreases.. in most cases this causes a "wash" as far as CNS exposure... but on really long hangs...

Ease of deco from He based gases...

So if you were to compare both dives side by side (one on He the other on N2 based gasses) with a "standard" decompression strategy I should be able to off gas more helium than nitrogen.... this would mean that with proper care I would be more "clean" after a mix dive than an air one... is...
