    Blue Heron-caught by the tide

If you really think that your safety is the responsibility of others( a dive shop, fellow divers, etc.) maybe you should rethink the whole diving thing. Get defensive all you like, but you should have learned in your OW class that your safety is NOBODY'S responsibility but your own. Take this as...

    What's going on?

Agreed, but that answer seems to completely ignore the fact that the air-mooch is dressed up like Ronald McDonald......WTF?!

    When to make the transition

Hello all, I have wanted to get into cave diving since I started diving. I am still a fairly new diver, having about 100 dives under my belt. My plan to make the transition into cave has been thus: NAUI OW and AOW, then the NAUI Tech progression into full cave. I have been looking around...

Gotta love Florida -- Weekend photos from West Palm and Eagle's Nest

Hey Uncle Avi, I live in Lake Park myself(small world). What shop do you work at, if you don't mind me asking?

Gotta love Florida -- Weekend photos from West Palm and Eagle's Nest

Sheck didn't use trimix, neither did Frank Martz......real men do deep dives on air alone. :duck: In all seriousness, thanks for the pics, they're great.

    Anti Fog recommendations

pffsss....real divers don't need anti-fog. Real divers just will the fog away.

    Advice on Fins (Ankle Pain)

If you have ankle/leg issues, I would suggest a set of Force fins. There are many different styles to suit your purposes. With these fins, there is a lot less stress on the leg, particularly the ankle and shin. You can contact Blair Mott here on the board. He's a great guy, and he can answer any...

    BCD punctured

I'm sorry, but just to clarify, is the air cell punctured, or do you just have a tear/hole in your bc? Obviously, an air cell puncture is a safety issue, and a tear is more a cosmetic issue. If it is an air cell puncture, it is likely repairable, depending on the BC you own. Take it up to your...

    Are you a Dive Hypocrite?

I agree with Walter and DCBC on this. Contrary to what some on the board think, we're all big boys(and girls). We can take into account the risks involved and make our own decisions. If you want to go dive to 200' on air, go ahead, more power to ya, but don't expect me to be your buddy on that...

anyone have experience with pinnacle wetsuits?

I live in South Florida and I dive a pinnacle 5mm cruiser(old name for the elastiprene model) pretty much year round. I love my suit. I have worn it in waters down to 60*, and have been toasty as a bug in a rug. I do suggest either trying one on at a shop, or ordering one from a site that offers...

    Technical diver transitioning to Recreational

You should definitely make sure you bring your split fins, spare air, integrated octo, and your tank banger. That is a bare minimum for the sort of activity you speak of. Oh, and make sure to have the biggest knife you can find strapped to your leg. Make sure you put it on the outside.

Flying with your gear... & spare air?

My first tip for making traveling easier is to forget the spare-air idea......that'll lighten your load right there....and you won't have a false sense of security to lug around with you

What do you put on your D-rings?

Compass, slate, small backup lights. I have to admit though, with a wrist mounted compass, and an arm-slate, the chest d-rings are, for a recreational diver, primarily flash.

    Hobby or Sport???

Tomato, Tomahto. What do YOU want to call it? Doesn't matter to me if you want to call it an extreme sport, or if you want to liken it to basket-weaving. Diving is diving, I'll leave any further labeling to the philosophers of the Board.

Trip Report: Jupiter Dive Center 4/5 & 4/6

I am glad you had a great time. It really makes me think that my one and only experience with JDC was anomalous. My girlfriend and I were misled about price, our reservations were lost(twice), we were taken to an 80 foot dive first, then to a 95+ foot dive as our second (!), given a poor dive...

Trip Report: Jupiter Dive Center 4/5 & 4/6

I'm glad to hear you had a good time! Another +1 for JDC....it makes me think that the awful experience I had with JDC (so bad that, even though I live right down the road, I will always opt for other dive ops now) was an anomaly.

    LP and HP

I feel that this could be an interesting and informative thread, but I don't want it to go off-topic. This is just my take on this post: The OP knows the difference in uses for HP and LP tanks, and service pressures. I believe the question being asked is about the physical differences, i.e...

    We need to dive deeper

pffffssss.....8,500 feet.....that's nothing.....who's coming with me? I've done deeper dives with no tank, solo, and in split fins. Don't even mention the approximate depth in meters....it'll prob just annoy someone who doesn't appreciate rounding ;-)
