    Info on Cuan Law

I also have a non-diving spouse and when I politely inquired a few years ago about a discount for her, I received a very snippy response regarding their inability and unwillingness to offer any reduction in price. Told me all I needed to know. Crossed them off my list and never regretted it.

Caribbean Explorer II trip report Aug 2015

Thanks for the report. I was on the same boat 5 years ago St. Maarten to St. Kitts and will be going again in the same direction as you in mid-November. Glad to know it's still as good as I remembered. My favorite dives were at Saba with "Diamond Rock" being the one site that I hope we get to do...

what not to bring a backup of?

I also agree that the best "backup kit" is a fully functional set of gear to start with. Give everything the once over before you go. Hook up your Octo and BCD to a spare tank at your local dive shop -- turn it on, test everything and turn it off. See if the pressure gauge holds steady. If it...

    BCS nat'l championship in Cozumel??

Margaritaville got the job done for us a few years ago when Auburn played the Ducks. It's big enough that we had easy access to TV viewing, it's indoors so no mosquitos or street noise, and there's a variety of basic food and drink to keep you nourished. Best of all, it's never busy. It's the...

    Hotel Cozumel vs Hotel Barracuda

... and don't forget that odd septic smell that permeates the interior spaces.

Bonaire In November - Wet or Just Damp?

That's a great website. Thanks a lot. We're going in March -- a month later than last year just to have a little more sunshine and warmer water temps. Glad to see the stats justify our decision.

Out Islands : Where to go and stay for family dive vacation (3 families)

Anywhere you go in the Caribbean, you may choose any 2 out of 3: Cheap, Secluded, Amazing. Small Hope Bay might be your best choice given your parameters. It's an all-inclusive which might be why the price seems high. The Exumas is another area to consider -- although it won't be as secluded...

    Bonaire BBQ

I'll go +1 on the Buddy Dive BBQ on Fridays. Even if you're not staying at BD, you can get a waterside table if you call ahead for a reservation (good idea no matter where you plan to eat on Bonaire). It's all you can eat (fish, chicken, sides, etc.) and it's all good. Highlight (for us) was the...

    socorros trip question

Uh, just to confuse things further regarding Solmar V... I just returned from a trip in early May and these were the numbers: 22 divers, 2 Pangas, 3 dive groups -- each with a DM who guided their respective groups. Two groups had 7 divers, the third had 8. The procedure was to assign a full...

    La Dania to Karpata

Have done Karpata at least 10 times and the La Dania "drift" twice. Last time was Feb., 2013. I have never encountered any current. The dive took about 50 minutes -- splash-in to exit. Ying-Yang on the road marks a well-worn path down to the water. There's room to pull out on the right side of...

    Calling home from Bonaire

There's a place in the small strip Mall immediately north of the traffic circle by Den Laman on the west side called "Chat & Browse". An American, Mike, the owner, is always there and was very helpful to us during our stay for the month of January. He's got sim cards, prepaid cards, and cell...

Juliet Bahamas Columbus Day 5-day Trip Report

I've been on Juliet 3 times in the past 5 years and, conditions permitting, they will let you dive until you're waterlogged. I was on the boat in June and I wasn't aware of any compressor limitations. The nitrox was a plentiful and consistent 32% all week.

    boot/fin recommendations

Been to Bonaire twice in the past 2 years -- 3 weeks of shore diving so far. Our regular pairs of booties are holding up just fine.

    Bonaire ~ After 50 dives...

Thanks for the video and the well written account of your stay. We'll be there for 2+ weeks in January - again! Concur with you on the 2 dives/site stategy. If a site looked good on the first dive, we'd do it again -- the second time heading in the opposite direction. Can't wait to thoroughly...

    Has anyone chartered a low-altitude bonaire-Curacao flight?

I honestly don't think they get more than 1,000 feet above the water on that flight in the unpressurized puddle jumpers. They'd just be wasting time and fuel if they went any higher.

    Your favorite bonaire restaurant

Agree 100% with Doctorfish on Pasa Bon. On a positive note, the best pizza we've found so far in Bonaire was at Paradise Moon (of all places) last January. Large specialty pie cost $16, it fed 4 hungry people, and it was delicious! Also gotta give a shout out for their 2:1 Happy Hour Mojitos -...

    Bonaire Food Comments

Having been to Boniare twice now -- renting a house for 2 weeks in January the last trip, I think that the last 2 posts have hit it on the head. Our experience was that the "underrated" places weren't all that bad and the "highly" rated places weren't all that great. Having a reservation...

    Communications Issues with Blue Angel?

We just booked a 2 person, 7-day, 5-day diving package last week for mid-September. No dive day lunches OR dinner. Just breakfast with a beverage. Cost was $106 less ($53/pp) than when those amenities were previously included. Too bad. Instead of spending the full $106 at BA (plus a whole lot...
