How often do you check up on your buddy during a dive?

Maybe I'm just neurotic, but I flash the OK?/OK whenever my buddy (or anyone else in my group) locks eyes with me, particularly if I know they're relatively new to diving. If they are looking at the other divers, they aren't really in the moment, and it's worth the momentary check-in to me. I'm...

Little Cayman Beach Resort - Trip Report - Sep 2019

Weird question: what is 'dress' for dinner at LCBR? I'm trying to keep my bags light, so the less unrequired clothes the better.

Little Cayman Beach Resort - Trip Report - Sep 2019

Thanks! I'll bring a collapsable bottle. Which doubles as a magarita transport vessel after the last dive!

Little Cayman Beach Resort - Trip Report - Sep 2019

Thanks for this report! I'm heading to LCBR solo in mid-October and really looking forward to a week of diving. Your tips are incredibly useful!

Fire on dive boat Conception in CA

Moderators, please kill this thread. It’s going nowhere other than for armchair experts to puff their chests and claim to be the authority on facts that are not fully in yet. THIS. ISN’T. ABOUT. YOU. Special Rules for the Accidents & Incidents Forum The purpose of this forum is the promotion...

Fire on dive boat Conception in CA

Looks like this thread is becoming a little hot with opinions and easily bruised egos. Let's try to keep it civil? Some of our fellow divers are no longer with us.

    Little Cayman - LCBR - October 11-18

Thanks for all the great tips, please keep them coming. Especially about the Mixing Bowl and going for the sand. Walls are great, but the interface between wall and sand is where the critters like to hang out in my experience! What is the typical depth of the dives? I ask because I typically...

    Little Cayman - LCBR - October 11-18

Thank you for the tips and links! I took the Classic Cayman 17 dive package (I will probably nab a night dive or two) and added drinks to it. I will be sure to pick up a bottle of something something before I head down. Unfortunately, my partner doesn't have the vacation time to join me (could...

    Little Cayman - LCBR - October 11-18

Hey all! Finally made my mind up on how to celebrate my 40th birthday submerged and will be spending it at LCBR. Anyone else from the forum going to be around during this time? Anything I shouldn't miss / should miss / tips re: the resort, island, and dive ops?

Probably asked before, but here we go again!

I’m beginning to agree with the consensus: a long weekend is too short. A week (saturday to saturday) makes a lot of sense. Curacao looks fantastic and would be my first choice, but limited flights may take it out of contention (at least for this year). Cozumel, Aruba, & T&C sound (and look)...

Probably asked before, but here we go again!

Hey all! I'm looking to do a long weekend 5days-ish of diving for my 40th birthday in October, and I'd like to bring my non-diving partner with me. She likes traveling with me and is very content to lay on a beach or in a hammock all day reading while I'm out diving, and is extremely low...

    First Time Calling a Dive

::slow meaningful clap:: Good for you. Dive smart. Dive safe. Live to dive another day.

    Any equipment buying regrets ?

    1) Immediately buying an AL Dimension I3 BC 2 weeks after completing my OW cert without testing out a bunch of different BCs first. Way too much BC for the type of diving I do. In fairness, I live in cold-water climate, so the local dive shops aren't stocked with gear suited to my preferences...

Are expensive masks worth the extra money?

My masks tend to be more expensive because I have prescription lenses installed. That being said, those lenses were the single-best investment I made in my dive gear. "Oh! THAT'S what my buddy has been seeing all these years! FISH!"

Free Hotel Room in Orlando, but lengthy drive to each dive site...

I think you're answering your own question. :)

Free Hotel Room in Orlando, but lengthy drive to each dive site...

Wow, I was in the same sitation as you last year: I was in Orlando for a two week tradeshow, and wanted to do some diving. I ended up concluding that 2.5 hours driving out for a few hours of diving, then another 2.5 hours back didn't make sense to me (even though I abhor Orlando). But, what...

    Top sites for beginners

In the Caribbean, Roatan ticks all your boxes, particularly towards the northwest end of island. I dove with Bananarama on Roatan last year, and all dives were from panga boats with less than 10 minutes run to the dive site. Roatan has done an extremely good job of reef stewardship IMO and the...

    Hair Care when diving

Conditioner at every shower opportunity. When I was on the Cayman Aggressor in February, they had bottles of conditioner at the transom shower stations. At first I thought it was ridiculous to be conditioning my hair so much, but wow did it keep my hair healthy for the week of diving.

What kind of cutting tool do you have and where do you mount it?

Trilobite on my chest strap and a Spyderco Rescue Assist knife in my BC pocket. After reading all these posts, putting the Trilobite on my computer wriststrap makes a lot of sense. I agree with Daebado: photos of your rigging please?
