    Avoiding "Cruise Ship" Locations

Based on what I experienced in Cozumel last week, sadly it is not a small minority. That or the entire population of that minority was in the custom's line.

    Avoiding "Cruise Ship" Locations

I REALLY like this term. Going to start using it effective now. :callme:

    Avoiding "Cruise Ship" Locations

I've heard similar about Corn Islands. I'm reaching the point in my life where I'm willing to put in a bit more effort to get to a certain location if that gets me away from my countrymen, so Guanaja may be a good choice! I've noticed that when I find a more remote location, the number muricans...

    Avoiding "Cruise Ship" Locations

I think you are onto something with the smaller boats. Some of the best Caribbean diving I've experienced has been off the side of a panga boat or zodiac.

    Avoiding "Cruise Ship" Locations

Canadians are indeed perfect. When traveling internationally in recent years, it has been easier to tell people that I am a Canadian and avoid a long discussion about the previous CiC. I would disagree about many people having these attitude, particularly when vacationing in the Caribbean...

    Avoiding "Cruise Ship" Locations

I'm sure to catch some flak and be labeled, but since that has never bothered me before here goes: I try to get along with everyone when I am on a dive vacation. I'm the guy that carries tanks for older divers, volunteers to take the novice diver around the wreck when the rest of the group...

Liveaboard vs Dive Resort for newbie divers?

Agree with Tippytoes12. I think you will be happier on a LOB after you have gotten at least 50+ dives under your belt and have your gas consumption and buoyancy under control. I know a lot of LOBs prefer/require an AOW certification (as much as they are worth...) so you should consider that...

What equipment to own vs to rent

I own all, but only after a s###load of expensive trial and error. IMO, out of the gates purchase a high quality mask, fins, boots, and wetsuit that all fit you perfectly and are comfortable. Then try out/rent as many different BCs and regs as you can to determine what you like (and more...

    Should I buy a nitrox (O2) analyzer?

Why do I have a feeling you work for Maxtec? Jokes aside, DogDiver is 100% correct. However, I know 2x of my analyzers got busted somewhere in the 5 connections to Burma three years ago. Yes, it's a good tool to have provided you actually know how to calibrate it, service it, and protect it...

    Signal for "OK"

White-supremacist and right-wing sh!tstains highjacked it. Left-wing and easily triggered sh!tstains got too upset by a hand gesture. Both groups I care very little about and genuinely hope perish in a fire. I will continue to use it underwater, above water with fellow divers, and with people...

    Octopus Fight!

I could be seeing it wrong, but is the octopus on the left at the beginning of the video missing an arm or two?

Woman dead - Duck Island, New Hampshire

I was just coming out of Portsmouth harbor on my boat when I heard the VHF request for medical assistance from the dive boat. Tragic; and this is the second death this summer in our area (another diver passed off Nubble Light a month or so ago). :(

    Nubble Lighthouse Tragedy.

I live minutes from Nubble, and have yet to actually dive there personally, but I do take my boat there frequently, fish in the area almost every weekend, and have put divers in off the boat. It's a tricky place to enter for a shore dive for the reasons Boston Breakwater points out; many...

For warm water divers only. Would you consider diving in cold water during travel restrictions?

I live in seacoast NH, and have never dived locally because of the cold water (summer water temps typically <63F). I picked up a 7mm specifically for this year because of COVID. If I can't dive in the tropics, I'll dive with the seals! :)

    Computer recommendations for New Divers

+1 for the Leonardo. It was my first computer and I still pack it with me in my save-a-dive kit. Cheap, tough, and works.

Why are so many folks selling their Teric?

I attended the Boston Sea Rovers show last month and spent some time comparing the two at the Shearwater booth. I also had the opportunity to play around with both in Roatan over Xmas. After much deliberation at the show I ended up purchasing a Perdix AI with transmitter. While I think the...

    Roatan immunizations

I used to have a PDF file compiled by some of my physician-diver friends that listed the contents for a small not-crazy traveling med kit to support a single diver or a couple for diving pretty much anywhere on the planet. I think it got lost when my old computer died. If I remember, it had an...

Is it wrong that I read FFM in the post and suddenly became incredibly interested in rebreathers?

What gave you the itch or motivation to take up diving

Not to sound cliche...'but there was this girl'... The girl in question is still a close friend, but the relationship soured. Diving did not :).

    Caribbean resort ideas

ScubaFun is a great outfit, and the guides are great. I never consider the DR for diving adventures, but Bayahibe is a great little town.
