Which training to do first: fundies or drysuit?

Fundies. It will improve both your warm & cold water diving. Once you are comfortable, realize that warm water diving is way more pleasurable and nix the drysuit training. ;)

When to call a dive... a question of limits.

Zero vis = calling the dive. If I cannot see my hand in front of me, I also can't see my buddy. Did this once in Roatan after a storm. I'd rather have a beer and watch the murky waves roll in, then be blundering around in them.

Zeagle Covert as Primary as Opposed to "Travel" BC?

You should file this under 'opinions are like #######s, everybody has one.' IMO, for a warm water travel diver (i.e., you're diving bare or in a rashguard/1mm skin suit), I would rule out a BP/W. This forum is very pro BP/W, which I understand if you are a regular cool/cold water diving or...

    Caribbean resort ideas

I felt incredibly pressured at LCBR to complete dives in an allotted time so we could be back for meal times. I completely understand this from a logistics standpoint, but since my goal on a dive vacation is as many dives as safely possible, it's not preferable. IMO, it's really the ONLY mark...

    Caribbean resort ideas

I was there in October 2019 for my 40th. Food was mediocre. Plentiful and varied, but mediocre. I would still go back in a heartbeat.

    Breathing

"LOOK EVERYONE! IT'S A NEW DIVER! LET'S ALL EMBARASS THE NEW DIVER BY COMMENTING ON THEIR AIR CONSUMPTION!" - said no diver ever. I know EVERYone says it, and it IS hard to believe, but you WILL improve on air consumption. I used to be a fellow air hog, and I'll offer the following advice based...

    Caribbean resort ideas

My $0.02 Little Cayman Beach Resort, Little Cayman. Pros, valet diving, more 'resort' feel, great rooms. Cons, only 3 dives a day, VERY structured dive plans, mediocre food, hungry mosquitoes. Coco View Roatan, Little Cayman. Pros, unstructured, 4 boat dives + unlimited shore dives, great...

Travelling diver who hires equipment and hate weight belts...solution?

I think I’m the same kind of diver as the OP, and I purchased the AL Rogue. Problem solved. The Outlaw would be another good choice (I’m more ‘generously proportioned’ and preferred the expandability/modularity of the Rogue).

    1st Dive Computer

I'll second the Cressi Leonardo. I started diving 4 years ago, and it was my first computer. Once you get used to how it works through menus, it's pretty straightforward, cheap, and reliable. You're going to get a LOT of opinions on SB about computers. IMO, you don't need anything more...

    Presecription mask lenses ?

As a fellow myopic diver, I second Prescription Dive Masks. Great service, Linda is a hoot to talk to, and the product/process they use is fantastic. Worth every penny IF you already have a mask you enjoy/prefer diving with. IOW, find the mask you absolutely love before you commit to have the...

Why are jacket style BCD's the most common??

Strap in everyone, we're about to hear some OPINIONS!!!!! :bop:

    Newby computer, what to get?

I second the Cressi Leonardo. For me, it's simple, easy to setup, easy to modify to bungee straps, and relatively cheap ($200) (read: if it breaks or gets lost, it doesn't break your bank). I think another selling point is the OP's inexperience (I do not mean this in any way as a put down!)...

    Recommendations for Easy Breathing Regs?

So much this!!! But to answer the OP question directly, I have an AL Legend first stage and reg. It's probably overkill for the diving I'm regularly doing (travel, warm water), but it breathes SUPER easy, particularly when I set it to max flow. I tend to back it down to min flow to conserve air...

Nitrox - Is it "worth it"?

Echoing what I think has already been said, I would [Mod Edit] get the cert. It won't hurt you. Whether it is 'worth it' comes down to: 1) how many dives are you doing in a given day? The more dives you are completing, the more EANx becomes useful (On a liveaboard, where you may be doing 5-6...

    LCBR really disappointed me today

Please understand I was not saying you were needy. It has been a general observation of mine that people on vacation frequently expect too much.

    LCBR really disappointed me today

I'm leaving for LCBR on Friday, so I'm keenly watching this thread. I'll post a trip report afterwards, but I'm hoping that I don't have a problem with the shop (only request I've made is for 100cf tanks, which I think they're bringing over from CB). I travel a lot so being kind and gracious to...

    Most comfy bcd

Oh boy, you are going to get a LOT of feedback about what feels best. Everyone is right, and everyone is wrong. Best solution, don't buy ANYthing until you have the opportunity to try on a bunch of BCDs, and if possible rent/demo for a couple dives. Like your mask, fins, and regs, your BC...

I like your plan. I REALLY like your plan. :)

    Air consumption

Oh man, this this THIS! I'm also a big guy, but I spend many hours of the week strength and cardio training in the gym. My health is better than the OP, but my muscles are GREEDY for air, and I was lucky to get 40 minutes out a 80cf tank. Then on a dive in the Keys a DM asked if I wanted to try...
