Liveaboard, extra charges after full payments

Some countries charge a departure tax and they usually require cash for it. I think all the others have been covered but usually extra costa are on the Internet. Galapagos charges a big fee when you arrive for example. Each place is different.

Open Water entry level has been a disaster so far

I would look at getting another kind of snorkel. Some like them with purge valves but I find the simple basic snorkel works better for me. Also, the frog kick advice is good- I think it helps me with my air consumption when diving. As for getting hell from the instructor- I would push back on...

any feedback on Hall's Dive Center in Marathon

I went out with them many years ago and did not like them but it was so long ago- this may not be fair. We did dive with Abyss - also in Marathon- and loved their operation. That was also years ago but they were family run and had a good philosophy- hopefully they are still around.

Need some advice to help a friend

At most the dive shop might be able to justify keeping a nominal amount to cover the cost of changing the reservation with the hotel and dive shop at the location but that would be it. Is she upset about it? Unless she is too ill- she should raise a ruckus about it with the Dive Club and...

    Equinox Housings Experience Report

I had a bad experience with them years ago and could not get any satisfaction. They are a real bad company and I do not know how they stay in business. You should also post to wetpixels.com.

    Water temp

Planning to go diving in Boynton Beach- last year the water was really warm- can someone tell me the temp now? Thanks.

You should also post it to the Florida forum- under Regional Forums.

How long should it take a liveaboard to fix their Nitrox?? (Dancer fleet)

It seems to me that they could get at least some Nitrox tanks so you don't have to do 100% air. That would show they are at least trying to mitigate a bad situation.

    Sucking down a tank quickly

when I started diving I had the same problem. It wasn't until I accepted my fate and stopped worrying about it- that it got much better. It will for you too as your skills improve and you feel more natural when diving.

Palau Liveaboards - Anyone been on the Tropic Dancer lately?

I was on the Ocean Hunter 1 recently and thought it was a good boat but it is very small- even by LOB standards but I would go on the boat again or look real hard at the OH 3 which we toured and it is truly awesome in terms of living space. More costly but worth the extra money. We were on the...

How long between your open water and advanced open water course?

I never took AOW- no regrets. Needed the $ to buy gear and dive travel.

    Coral Scrapes

Vinegar is good too - make sure to see a doctor if it gets infected. Keep it clean and put some antibiotic ointment on it. It will take awile before it doesn't bother you if it is just a runof the mill fire coral sting.

    Deep Diving Query

I have been down to 150' to look at something specific- otherwise there is no reason to go on a deep dive. I have no certification beyond OW1. My first dive trip was to Cozumel and not knowing any better- we thought we were restricted to 60' which kind of amused everyone else on the boat. So...

    I'm too stiff

It is a common thing to see in new divers- as you develop your skills by doing more dives, you should get better now that you know. The really good thing is that once you stop moving your arms when not needed, your air consumption will improve too and the fish life will not run from you.

Nervous Nellie in the water-- even after a dozen dives

It doesn't sound like you are having any fun- why do you want to keep diving? The recommendation to dive in some warmer water with vis will do several things for you- you will feel less encumbered in the water, you will see hopefully some cool fish, and you won't have to necessarily go too deep...

    Bolting to the surface...

This was your first dive with him- I wouldn't go with him again. I certainly would not ascend with him either- I think it is fortunate you did not have a hold of his BC before he went up. Panic is the killer- you are obligated to help but not to compromise your health and life. It isn't unusual...

    First live aboard trip

I would not assume that all boats in a fleet meet the same standards- in some countries- all boats must be owned by locals and so are merely marketed by the US company- so it is not like going to a franchise hotel where you know certain standards must be met or exceeded. I would decide where I...

One day to dive... do you bring it all?

You also should consider how much your gear weighs and how much you are willing to pay the airline for the baggage- or if you are willing to forgo other things you might bring for the rest of the trip.

Is Light DCS Possible with Very Shallow Dives?

Call DAN - I was in an emergency room at Grand Cayman years ago and there was a young girl who got bent on her first certification dive. Why take a chance?

Question about ears / bloody nose

have you tried taking a sudafed a few hours before the dive? This helped me when I started diving.
