    Carpe Vita Explorer

I ran into some people on a boat in Florida who had just been on it in February and they were happy with the boat, crew and diving.

    Pickleball anyone?

I love scuba diving and am excited to be returning to Little Cayman Beach Resort. I have tried contacting them twice to see if they would consider striping their tennis courts for pickleball and buying a net. have not herd back..am hoping that someone who is there or going to be there soon can...

    Different Florida options- advice please

I have been going to dive in Boynton Beach and Riviera Beach for years and am considering a change of pace. I love the reefs but dive with a buddy who likes to hunt lobster. Would either Key Largo, Marathon or Key West be a good option for both of us?

    Which dive shop?

Just went out with Starfish scuba last week in Boynton Beach and thought they did a great job. Also dove with Calypso Divers in Rivera Beach and liked them too. Have also gone out with Underwater Explorers but couldn't make it work for us this year but have liked him in the past. Nearly all the...

Cannot find a reason for AOW certification

I also never got AOW certified and 23 years later I have no regrets. I have come across a few LOBs that will not let you go unless you have one. Last I heard, if you want to go to Malpelo the Columbian government insists on it. Other than that, I see no reason to spend the money on it. Better to...

    Equalizing Ears - Beginner Questions

Also remember to take your time- there is no point worrying about how long it is taking because that will only aggravate matters. Never descend further until you are have equalized at that depth. Make sure you start doing this immediately when your head hits the water. I also take a decongestant...

    Scared after a bad dive

If it makes you more comfortable, consider strapping an extra mask to your leg. I have seen this.

    Almost Certified then What's next

You have great diving close to you in Boynton Beach, Jupiter, Riveria Beach, up and down the coast of Florida. I recommend you spend your money on diving so you improve your air consumption and skill level and get comfortable in the water. The more you do it, the better you will be. Taking...

How Can I Stop Blisters From Forming On My Toes?

Lycra socks are good and so is a product called Moleskin which can be bought at a drugstore. It is basically thick padding with good adhesive and will cushion any part of your foot. You buy it in small sheets and cut it to the shape and size you need.

    After Open Water Course

Dive, dive , dive. I would recommend you get your own mask but the rest of the gear I would look at ebay and compare to rental prices. I have met a lot of people that took a lot of courses but never really got into diving so I would not take any more until you figure out if this is going to be a...

Nautilus 2 - The Maldives - dive trip report.

Thanks for a great report. I want to go there some day and this is really helpful. Did you encounter any problems communicating with the crew?

Wait to take advanced open water? Or not?

It sounds like you really want to take the course but I would wait. With less than 100 dives the course will have less relevance to real life experience and will IMO be a more book learning than actual skill improvement. I think you will get more knowledge from the course if you wait. You are...

    Strange email from Maldives operator

I hope that when you get back, you write a trip report so other divers can benefit from what you learn- good or bad.

    Wth?

I think the DM needed a piece of your mind with a complaint as well to the dive operation so he doesn't do it again and maybe really hurt someone. He may be well intentioned but he needs to respect other people's space and safety.

    Diver etiquette

Please do not stand in front of my station so I can set up my gear. I know it is cramped. Please consider your language and refrain from cursing. Everything else was covered in the previous posts. Thanks for asking.

Emergency Equipment to Assist Search and Rescue

A lot of good information here. Also, don't forget the low tech stuff like a mirror, SMB , and strobe light.

Major Freak Out - What should I have done differently?

I may be repeating what others have already said... you should not have been out on this dive and you owed it to the DM and the people you were diving with to communicate better. Also, you may have an AOW certification but it is a mistake if you consider yourself an advanced diver. Devils Throat...

Advice needed - unqualified diver with apparent mental issues and a bump on my head

anytime I am looking into a dive operator I ask them how the dives are conducted. I stay away from operators that require everyone to dive in group fashion and go with those that let me and my buddy go on our own. Lots of people prefer to be in a group but I had an experience early on with a...

Switching from 3mm full wetsuit to 7mm full wetsuit in Salt Water

When I used my 7mil wet suit with the farmer john, I needed 26 pounds. I also recommend you bring your lighter suit. I found I did not need the heavier suit and was really happy not to have to use all that weight. Plus, you can layer it if you need to. You might want to buy a hooded vest to...
