Long hose (7 feet) setup ?

I've never dove with a 5' hose, but this routing seems to me like it would be dangling down from my body, at least somewhat. I don't like things dangling at all.

Long hose (7 feet) setup ?

Recommend a 7' hose. A 40 inch hose is far from ideal for air sharing. As for the 5' hose... I am 6'1", and it's all torso. Sue is 5'7", Kim is 5'8". We all have the same inseam. Keeping a 5' hose tucked in my waist belt isn't going to happen. In short: 40" is too short for ideal sharing...

Long hose (7 feet) setup ?

Matter of personal preference... At the end of a dive off Cozumel, at about 80FSW, the guide had an o-ring failure. Boom. Gone. Bye bye air. I handed her my long hose, made sure she was ok, made sure the rest of the group was OK, and we ascended. I was diving doubles, so there was no need to...

    Dressel Divers Cozumel Alternatives

Aldora will pick you up on the pier. They have big tanks, small boats, pamper you, and match groups by experience/skill.

Silt out rather than tap out

Scary situation, but "almost dies" seems like a little bit of media drama.

    40cf too big for pony?

It's mostly just a matter of terminology. The term "pony bottle" isn't typically used to mean "any extra tank" so much as it's used as a synonym for a bail out bottle. If I'm doing a solo dive and clip on an extra tank to provide some redundancy, that's a pony bottle. If I'm a hoover (I am...)...

    Motionsick...should I liveaboard?

In general, the bigger the boat, the less the motion affects you.

"Save a Dive" kit: minimum and maximum items ?

Sort of depends on where you live and where you dive... For those of us who are land locked, and for whom directions to dive sites all start with "board the plane" it's pretty minimal. For me, it's o-rings, silicone grease, a SCUBA multi tool, an adjustable wrench, a screwdriver, a couple bolt...

Pick apart my rescue: air-share ascent from 110'

Agreed. Donate first. Given that the OP mentions they ascended hanging onto each others BCD (which is the only thing you can do with short hoses) and given that I personally do NOT like that sort of ascent (makes doing things like shooting a bag problematic...) I'd almost certainly have put them...

Pick apart my rescue: air-share ascent from 110'

As others have said, I would have donated my long hose, but would have put them on their pony before the ascent. But you can't argue with success. Ultimately, results are what matter.

Secrets Resort Again Charging For Pier Use... BEWARE

That's sad to hear. We like Secrets, and have stayed there quite a few times. But we do not dive with the house shop. If they're going to hassle us about that, we certainly won't be staying there.

What is the best size tanks for sidemount?

I'm not even sure what you mean by "if you'd actually done it, you wouldn't" so perhaps you'd clarify. If you recall, my initial statement was that it would be really unlikely. But not impossible. I'm really not sure why that's generating all the apparent angst.

What is the best size tanks for sidemount?

Probably so. Or maybe I'd rather carry 4 HP 100's instead of 6 AL80s. More likely still, I'd be carrying some combination of tanks, since a dive that requires that much gas is likely to require different mixes at different points.

What is the best size tanks for sidemount?

Certainly not likely to do so, but if that were all I could get, it's at least remotely possible.

    Long Hose Stowing

I coil the long hose, on the final wrap put the 2nd stage through the loops, then clip the 2nd stage to the D ring. When I put my BP/W on, I hang the octo around my neck, unclip the long hose, and wrap it around myself in the usual manner.

    PADI O/W no tables

Might be opening a can of worms here, but I'll say it anyway. Dive tables should go away completely and nobody should be bothered. A simple computer is cheap, and will give you far more accurate real world info

Doubles wing donut vs horse shoe.

I'm one who thinks this is just a matter of what you're used to. I've used donuts and horseshoes and can't say that it makes any difference at all, to me.

    NOW Jade Cancun

Never been to that resort. When we're in Cancun, we stay at the Riu Palace Penninsula and dive with Alvaro from Always Diving.

What is the best size tanks for sidemount?

The best size is the size that provides enough gas for the dive that's been planned. That might be a single AL80, or four HP100's, or whatever.

    Shuttle or Taxi??

Three people. Two of whom are ladies. Who like to dress up in the evenings. Which means I dress up too, because it makes them happy. Packing light isn't going to happen.
