Thanks all!
Will get over to Seraya tomorrow. Just did the Liberty again today. Got some nice pics of skeleton shrimp (2 colors) and the Dennis Pygmie Seahorses.
Im not sure if these qualify as decent or not, dirtfarmer but there were little (5mm or so) hairy shrimp all over the place today...
Hi all! Can anyone recommend a good place to stay in Padang Bai? We did a day trip there from Tulamben a couple of days ago and I was very impressed with the macro opportunities at the jetty there. We will probably dive with OK as one of their guides was kind to me underwater, pointing out some...
Hi all! We are presently in Tulamben taking photos and I was wondering if anyone would like to share:
* what do you think Bali's best macro dive is?
* what are the most interesting creatures there?
im hoping to see a harlequin shrimp and a
donut nudi here :)

Hi guys! We have decided on a quick break over to Fiji in a couple of weeks (leaving on the 20th). It's just a short trip. 10 days only.
We have dove Indonesia and the Philippines quite a bit, but this is our first time in Fiji. We prefer to spend time in one or two places and see them...
I find myself very moved by the ferry tragedy that is unfolding. Here's hoping they find air pockets inside the ship. Those poor children. What a horrifying way to die - trapped inside a metal box filling with water.
And it made me think - I've dived a similar wreck. It was the Dona Marilyn off...
We left there less than a week ago, after a 12 day stay with Tim and the backpackers crew. Macro paradise for sure. Just wow. It was like a macro masterclass for me.
May I ask what your strobe details and positions are here? Light quality is excellent.
What should be required reading?
I found my way here right after OW and credit SB with instilling in me respect for the sport and a desire to better my skills. After OW, I couldn't have asked for a better teacher. And I don't find this site as oppositional and cranky as some people seem to. At...
Hi! We are just back from a few of these places. Palawan is quite a detour. El Nido is spectacular. The diving there is pretty average - water warming has killed off a lot of coral. But island hopping there is great. Just be prepared for a lot of tourists. There is a reason Alex Garland wrote...
A nose plug would make equalizing your mask pretty tricky when it starts to squeeze, wouldn't it? It seems like a bad idea to me, unless medically necessary for some reason, on that basis alone.
We are over here now and also love nudis.
We are currently in Anilao. It's AMAZING. Staying at Anilao backpackers. Dives on the house muck site opposite cost 300pesos a dive unguided, but a private guide is worth it for 900pesos per dive to find the tiny stuff like Lembeh sea dragons etc...
Funny you should ask.
I like a good good guided dive on an unfamiliar site. I especially appreciate a good critter spotter who can point out likely habitats etc.
We have just left Coron in the Philippines, a popular wreck diving site. We went with one of the best reviewed dive outfits on the...
Hey all!
I promised an update, so here one is.
We are two and a bit weeks into the trip now and everything has gone great. This has been nowhere near as bothersome as I feared it might be.
The strategy so far has been to stick to shore diving or boat diving in benign conditions. This has been...
Hello all!
i have an Olympus epl-3 with two inon s2000 strobes. I was wondering if anyone could tell me the correct settings for this combo (for macro) please? Any tips would be much appreciated :)
thanks so much!
Thanks, all!
Really, thanks. The discussion here, in conjunction with talking to my surgeon and DAN and my physiotherapist, has been invaluable in helping me make an informed decision here. You guys are awesome. The virtual beers are on me!
So we are off this Friday, and I'm feeling about as...
Thanks, digger.
Yeah, we have dove through the Visayas before (spent 5 weeks there same time in 2013) and the people are just gorgeous, aren't they?
As long as I de-gear in the water I reckon the ladder onto the bangkas should be fine. I'm managing stairs fine at the moment, and can do about a...
Yeah, I need to sign off with my travel insurance that I will be appropriately conservative, and I am still covered. We are working out the specifics and I intend to abide by them. But no rough condition entries or exists for me, even on sand. I'm going to be very conservative about such things...
