Nice vids SoCalMike! Watching those makes me want to hit the dive park! :)

Im just curious is that legal to feed the fish in the park? If so is it ethical?

Not challenging the legality or ethics of fish feeding Im just curious.

Looks like fun.

Whoa! Calico Bass feeding frenzy!

Seriously though, not sure about the law or ethics but I know there's a bunch of people who have to admit they stopped at the little Vons and bought a bag of frozen peas on the way to casino point..

It's been about 10 years since I've done it, but one thing for sure, I remember the Sheepshead being much larger back then! Luckily, I was able to retrieve the ziplock baggie after they had manhandled it away from me...

Oh man, that frenzy at the end of pt. 2 is crazy!

Imagine if you had brought doughnuts.

There is no law against feeding the fish. A buddy of mine and I did the same thing years ago in the park and had a very large Sheephead (possibly Oscar) try to take the actual bag. I had to wrestle it back from him twice. That being said I would not do it again. I have since found out that fish have problems digesting the peas and it is not good for them. If I was to do it again I would purchase the pellet, fish food sold at a dive shop which is not harmful to the fish.
Congrats on your AOW cert and good luck with your videography.

Legal, probably
Ethical, helllllllll no! It's this lack of ecological responsibility and cognition that leads to overgrowth of certain species and accidents/injuries. Before you do something involving the environment, ask someone intelligent if you should do it or not. Feeding fish in their environment is not an intelligent move.

I've never done the bag o' peas because I agree with Empty V about not messing with the natural ecology of the area.

I know a certain instructor who took a bag of peas to give his students a fun experience, and got more than he bargained for.

There was a Black Sea Bass nearby which became interested in the goings on. Before the instructor knew what was happening his arm was nearly elbow-deep in the BSB's mouth as the fish decided the peas and bag might be a tasty treat.

No harm done as the fish released pretty quickly. I saw him after exiting the water and the only lasting effects were a slightly tattered wetsuit sleeve and a story to tell.
