And, according to you, these former students with the terrible skills are still better divers than the instructors who taught them.
Correct. They, the students, dont know any better, the instructor is supposed to.

I spent a while trying to figure out how this makes any sense, but I gave up.

I'm surprised you spent any time at all on my off hand comment that was never intended to be taken as literally as you seem to have done. :)

If it was not intended to be taken literally, why did you work so hard to defend it?

Sorry, to clarify "student" meant, post-certification "student". They are technically still the instructor's "student". Point being there are a LOT of divers that exhibit terrible skills and yet there is an instructor out there that taught that and issued them a c-card.

I like this theory. Soooo, as I am driving down the interstate, steering with my knees, going 85mph, weaving through traffic, texting and eating a bowl of noodles , its really old Coach Brock's fault for signing my drivers ed certificate. Brilliant!

Yes. My PE coach never taught me how to do a 70 mph drift in the rain to avoid T-boning a cop car, at night, drunk, with a beer between my legs......which I'm still proud of. I believe the cop was impressed too, just gave me a ticket (made me pour out the beer), and didnt test me for a DUI, I believe he thought no way a drunk could control a '79 T/A like that!

So much about safety ,risk management, and diving within limit and proper certification , but , what can we do ?
If we dive ,"Guided " by divers not Properly trained for technical diving , to depth as far at 60M ?
Not properly trained ! by this i mean , not understanding gradient factor , Computer synchronization , common Technical Dive sign , computer setting , Pre-dive briefing Emergency end of dive procedure , etc etc .
And after further questioning , we just realized in fact they are not trained for technical diving neither certified for technical diving to extended range or deco procedure or Advance Nitrox.
So we ask more question(s) to the Owner operator of the dive center, most of the time away and very rarely on site .
We ask DAN if we are properly insurance in case of an event diving with a Negligent Dive operator.
We ask in good faith the Dive Agency represented on the Dive Operator website by a Nice LOGO, misleading a diver like unaware of the situation.
So much about safety in the industry of Scuba Diving but in 2025 I`m surprise that so many related parties refuse to take action about a negligent operator refusing bluntly to shown proof of Technical diving certification. Some call this situation fraudulent , I `m wondering if i have been mislead to believe i was diving with leader in technical diving ? Who can answer , this hot issue ? A Lawyer ?
If the crew, DM, guide, whatever, is not actually tech certified AND experienced...then go elsewhere. its not just the card...actual...real experience matters

Were you playing freebird on the 8-track? Must have been in Davie... :)

My 8 track was in my Cutlass, T/A was a cassette! But it was freebird! And not Davie, Gainesville, I think south on NE 15th Street, had spent the evening at Islands.
