Hi everyone,

I’m Tanner, a lifelong diver, Army veteran, and founder of Rheo Dive a new brand with one mission: help divers stay focused, safe, and immersed.

We’re thrilled to introduce our first product: the Rheo Dive Mask, the next generation smart dive mask with a no-distraction HUD. It's designed to display just what matters underwater depth, dive time, and ascent rate all in your line of sight, without interrupting the dive experience.

This product is now officially patent pending, and we’ll be launching on Kickstarter soon.

If you’re passionate about diving, tech, or innovation, we’d love your thoughts, questions, and feedback. Thank you for letting us be part of this amazing community.

It will! Thank you for your interest and question.

NDL and repetitive dive calculations will be included. It will include a compass (magnetic heading), depth (including ascent/descent rate), time, air, BAR, NDL, Safety Stop, temp and time.

The display will be customizable in a companion app (iOS & Android) so you customize your display for the information you need, when you need it.

Full list of capabilities will be released in the future I’d welcome you to sign up for updates at www.RheoDive.com.

I love the focus on a no-distraction HUD! One thing I would absolutely love would be a simple compass readout, just a head number or even cardinal direction. Unlike NDL/gas/time, compass heading is one number that you often need to stare at for 5+ minutes.

Thats a great point Chris! Thank you for your note. There will be (an option for) a compass scroll at the top to show magnetic heading.

Edit: to add compass display is an option.

Don't you think the DataMask constitutes an example of prior art?

The Oceanic Datamask did it twenty years ago. Seemed cool but somehow never took off. Do you have a new take on the idea?

@RheoDive - just offering some individual thoughts with a constructive spirit intended.

Built-in GPS adds an essential safety layer by helping surface teams track diver location in real time.

I’d make that feature part of your premium model. Your pioneer efforts to integrate an UW GPS capability into a dive mask will likely put the cost to customer somewhere in the upper stratosphere and your pool of purchasers is likely to be pretty small.

What I think could be the base model mask is definitely interesting. However, as a technical diver who likes to and must check data with less forgiveness than recreational dives, I wouldn’t feel compelled to rush out to get one of these. In a trimmed out dive position, my data isn’t far away on my forearm and the mask, although convenient, doesn’t seem to offer me a dynamic leap forward in capability. In fact, it adds complexity where simplicity in equipment to endure multi-hour exploration dives without complications is more favorable, IMO.

I think this mask will appeal to folks who generally like technology across all facets of their daily life rather than it will appeal to a category of divers.

Best of luck and glad you got to enjoy Vicenza.

Yeah, I think from the tech gadget perspective, it has a lot of potential. Like you could have a Bluetooth enabled wrist- mounted touchpad, write messages with finger or stylus that you see on the HUD, and send them to other divers that have the system so it appears in their HUD even if they weren’t near you. Also a hands-free camera would be fantastic. As @NothingClever mentioned, these could be premium features.

I know people also get married to their computer platforms. It would be cool if you had an HUD mask that had a CarPlay-type interface, cut licensing deals with top DC makers (Shearwater, etc.), then users could buy an SD card and see their preferred DC interface/features on the display. Rheo then also wouldn’t have to spend the dev costs on programming their own DC.

If the lens was LCD, you could do stuff like change tint levels for on surface or submerged.
