Greetings from DFW, TX!

Member here since 2017. My younger brother was certified for many years and encouraged me to try diving, but I put it off until after some friends scheduled a group trip to Cozumel. They all went on several dive trips that week and raved about it, so my GF and I ended up getting OW certified in Roatan shortly thereafter. Almost immediately after we ended up spending over a week diving in Punta Cana/Bayahibe getting AOW and Nitrox certification. Then Cozumel. Aruba. PV. T&C. Marathon, FL during C-19.

Drift diving. Anchor line diving. Night diving. Wreck diving. Cenote diving. Bull shark diving. Snorkeling with whale sharks. It's all been great.

Would love to do a liveaboard. Pelagics. Soccoro Islands. HI. Asia. Bought NG's 100 Dives of a Lifetime as a source of inspiration for future trips.

I am a gear nerd at heart and did tons of research here and online before buying our own gear.

DSS backplate and wing, or a Zeagle Brigade for myself. Zeagle Zena for the GF, now fiancée.
Shearwater Perdix and Teric dive computers with AI.
ScubaPro regs with backup SPGs.

Thanks for reading!

Hey there! Super cool you were able to get your OW in Roatan....I had to do mine in a lake (not nearly as fun) but still fell in love with the sport! Should check out a good group to dive with...the group I'm currently diving with goes everywhere.

Thanks for the comment on my post!

Yeah - most local shops will want you to do their class in its entirety. Certainly makes sense for them from an economic standpoint. And I understand their perspective of the possible downsides of doing your check dives at a resort dive center.

Lots of cool local groups here in DFW that dive locally as well as host dive charters all over the world. But sometimes coordinating work and trip schedules is tough.

Welcome! Hoping to visit Roatan one day.
Oh man. Roatan. You HAVE to go.

We really enjoyed Bayahibe DR as well.

Marathon FL - petting nurse sharks.

I'm originally from NYC! Do you get your gear in NYC or from elsewhere? Any NYC favorites? I love browsing dive shops.

Welcome from another DFWite! Diving is such a great thing -- and so much diversity. There's something for everyone! Nerding out on gear is fun too!
What part of this vast metroplex? I'm on the southern end.

Plano since 2006, Frisco currently!

Do you have a favorite local shop? We originally started with Scuba Frisco but Thorsten sold his shop to Scuba International. Haven't needed much in the way of gear but I always love looking.

You should check out the group SingleDivers.com. She does everything for you...taking out the frustration of planning or organizing trips. It's not a dating site, it's for people who are buddieless, not dive group, or just want to dive and meet new friends. Great people and great group!
