Leaving your tanks on during a boat ride is a stupid idea. It is very easy for gear to get slammed around, a purge button gets partially depressed and you lose a bunch of air, since you can't hear anything as the boat is pounding into the seas.

Found the shearwater guy that's never used a Garmin...I have both. Garmin transmitters chew through batteires, thankfully they are MUCH easier to replace than Shearwater. So I have a reason to save both. Garmin b/c they eat batteries and Shearwater b/c of those stupid little screws. I'll keep purging my regs.

I pressurize my regs test and shut off valves leaving regs pressurized. After about 5 minutes I check again for pressure drop, which woukd indicate a leak. Some drop is expected as hoses stretch. Open close valves again and monitor pressure to ensure zero leakage.

On dive site, I open valves, dive, post dive leave pressurized until back in shop for tear down, rinsing etc.

I rinse second stages by putting hose to mouth piece and pressing purge.

Tank valves on/off and regs pressurised: what’s the standard way during predive?

For example when diving backmount twinset with deco bottle, I first analise backgas and deco gas, screw in the first stages, open the tank valves, and check that the regs and spg are working (for the regs I take a quick breath, not just pushing the purge button), then close the valves (both twinset and deco bottle) but leave all the regs pressurised.

The gear is then transported to the boat, and I get ready.
Once on the boat and before jumping into the water I will do my routine which involves turning the twinset valves open and do another quick check of the regulators
For the deco bottle I will reopen the valve, check the reg (still by doing a quick breath, usually with the reg still tucked in), and turn the valve shut without purging the reg (I will reopen the valve only during gas switch underwater).

Postdive I will turn all the valves off and purge the regulators before unscrewing them from the tanks.

Is that the normal way?
I don’t think it matters too much whether you transport the tanks with the regs pressurized and off or purged and off. It’s nice to leave regs pressurized/valves off for a few minutes to check for slow leaks, but for the whole trip to the dive it’s not necessary.

I was about to say you need to open the back gas valves before jumping into deep water, but then I read a little less carelessly and saw that’s exactly what you do. Deco gas off and pressurized (I do that too) and once in the water for the bubble check I open the deco valve, then shut it again.

Most of my dives start in shallow water (cave entrance) and in SM so I don the tanks in the water, pressurizing and closing before pulling a tank into the water, attaching at the bottom, then open and look for bubbles before attaching the bungee at the top of the tank.
