What’s the dive boat etiquette when the diver who plans the longest runtimes takes the longest time to jump in?

Think dives with a deco station where you want to stack by runtime, so that you don’t spend half of your deco like flag on a flag pole. Someone wants to do a really long runtime but keeping faffing with their gear and jump last (possible even blocking your jump).

What’s an acceptable level of hazing to get the point across?

AITA?

Why does it have to be hazing? Why can't a simple discussion solve the problem?
This is why I like to dive in groups that have a leader, someone who will sort this out with their authority.

Without any experience in situations like this (divers having different plans for same site/boat); shouldn’t the plans be pre-handed to the boat operator and discussed in a “briefing”?
I’d assume that the next step would be the opposite, so that all divers are on the deco pole at the same time-ish

As to hazing, my social skills are in the dumpster so I wouldn’t know what’s a tactful yet firm enough way to express it without either “appeal to authority” or being super direct about it

Agree on a time to back ON BOAT, not runtime, a few minutes one way or the other should be acceptable, 10+ should not be.

Stop inviting them aboard and/or pay for the boat yourself if it's stressing you out. Otherwise why does it matter? You're on an extended SI anyway right?

You really don't want me to answer that! And neither do the mods, so I will remain silent!

In all seriousness, after a dive, I'm in such a chill mood looking over the sea/ocean, enjoying some snacks and non-alcoholic drink, I couldn't care less. I'm just grateful that everyone makes it back healthy and no medical emergencies.

Have you ever tried to discuss anything with the diver in question? He would talk a hole into your head :-D

Boat captain: We’ll be on site until 1130 am.
So be back at the boat at 1120 so we’re not holding up the afternoon trip.

boat crew member ask everyone’s run time and that’s that.
If the person isn’t your buddy, you probably can avoid stroking your ego with unsolicited advice
