Hi Yondi! Congratulations on y’all’s certifications. North Texas has a great community we enjoy practicing our skills at the local quarries in Athens & Terrel; both are run by great families. Helping with invasive weeds in San Marcos is a superb experience with just lovely visibility. The Flower Gardens on the Fling in the gulf of mexi is a must! We earned our Deep certs on the Flower Gardens trip from Andy via Gigglin Marlin in H-Town. It was a memorable trip and he’s a good teacher, highly recommend!

You’re pretty far north of it, but as good Texas divers you might head south to Freeport and make the liveaboard boat trip out to the offshore marine sanctuaries at Flower Garden Banks and Stetson Bank, the “Texas Caribbean”.

Check out Fling Charters on line.

One of our instructors is planning a trip to the Flower Gardens in March, he said its fantastic! We won't make that one, we have an over seas trip planned that's leaving the day after they get back. I haven't wrapped my head around diving in a lake yet, but I'll get there

Don’t feel too bad. August and September are warmer, and aside from a Hurricane threat, calmer. So less chance of a weather postponement .

We're north of Dallas in Little Elm. Love it here!
I’m in North Fort Worth and am jumping back into diving. Recently went on a cruise to Cozumel and did a dive excursion, which made me want to get back into it. Haven’t dove anywhere in Texas, but looking to find some fellow divers to meet up and try some out. Let me know if you and your husband would like to get together and dive sometim.

Check out DFW Scuba in Haltom City. Great shop and great set of divers.

Welcome to SB. I‘m also from Texas, live 50 miles south of Houston, 15 minutes from The Fling dock. https://www.texascaribbean.com/

Flower Gardens is definitely a good weekend trip for you. Here’s a small sample of what you may see there, I took 4 years ago with a GoPro:

Our dive club usually do a season opening in our local lake called Mammoth Lake. I even took my Advanced Open Water Certification there. Here’s what you may see there:

What are the currents like? I'm thinking about doing the Kraken and Texas Clipper on a weekend trip, would also add in Flower Gardens.

I have done it about 8 times (16 attempts with 50% of success rate due to bad weathers) since 2005 and only one time I got blown away by the current. It was my fault for not holding on the anchor line during descending. Once you are at the bottom, the current is pretty much minimal.
