Been a while since I posted anything here. During that time, I published a few more books on Cozumel, all of them available from Amazon Books.

However, my latest work is a revamp of the website EverythingCozumel.com

This newly overhauled and reconfigured site is specifically designed for cell phones and has several features that can make looking for things in Cozumel much easier. Once you choose the language (English or Spanish) on the landing page, you are taken to a menu of internal links.

One link takes you to an interactive map of the city, covering an area from the airport in the north, down to the Puerta Maya pier in the south. You can use the search feature on the map to look up the locations of restaurants by name or category. Same thing for bars, taquerias, banks, ATMs, and exchange houses. There is also a searchable, interactive island map that shows all public beaches, beach restaurants, beach clubs, parks, ruins, etc. These proprietary maps, unlike Google’s maps, are ground-proofed and show everything in their correct locations. And, unlike Google maps, when a place closes, it is removed from the map and when a new one opens, it is added. If you see anything that you think needs to be changed, just fill in the contact form on the site and let me know.

Other pages on the site are taxi rates and zones, city bus and colectivo routes, airport shuttle rates, Cozumel cuisine, hotels, ferries, mainland buses, emergencies, car and moto insurance, archaeological sites, mainland sites of interest, articles about Cozumel, and more…

If you come to Cozumel and you forget the website address, you can access it from the QRcode sticker found at all city government information booths, car/moto rental agencies, or hotel concierge desks. I hope the new website can help you when you are in Cozumel looking for something.

I've been wondering where you were. I was a little worried. Glad to see you're back.

Wow. This is amazing and done exactly as an informational website should be done, imo. Simple.

Wish I lived there. I would love to run around to every one of those restaurants and get their info for your site.

Thank you for sharing! Good to see you back here posting. Very helpful and valuable info on the island I love and miss. Much appreciated your diligent work to create. Well done!

What are the rates for the taxies that are outside of the airport? When I was there almost two years ago I got a cab to Allegro for $20. The prices listed seem to say that from the airport a private taxi is $40 which is a bit much.

I don’t set the taxi, bus, or shuttle prices. I just report them. If you think the rates “seem a bit much,” you need to take it up with the appropriate transportation syndicates.

You could not have taken a taxi from the airport to Allegro two years ago. You are obliged to take a shuttle. Taxis can only drop off at the airport. They are not allowed to pick up at the airport. Only the shuttle companies can pick up at the airport.

If you walked outside of the airport property to catch a taxi on the street to go to Alegro, that would be a taxi ride from Zona 1 to Zona 10. The price for that ride is 210pesos for a cab carrying one to four people, as shown on the taxi rate chart.

If you took a shuttle from the airport to Allegro, the prices for the two shuttle companies operating from the airport are posted on my website as well. Both companies offer various types of rides and combinations of numbers of passengers (shared vans, private vans, and private cars) each with a different price, ranging from $8.08usd per person to $40.30usd per person

There was a story in here recently where someone was charged what he considered to be an exorbitant amount to take him from just outside the airport grounds to (IIRC) the Aldora Villa.

Every Taxi in Cozumel has a printed copy of the same rate sheet that is shown on my website. If you think you are being overcharged, ask to look at the rate sheet. Better yet, verify the price BEFORE you take the cab. Bear in mind, that there are extra charges that are sometimes applied (correctly) to the fare, like wait time, radio call, picking up at a "sitio," picking up at a hotel, late night hours, etc. Those extra charges are all spelled out on the rate sheet.

If you are trying to play the system by walking outside of the airport grounds to get a taxi, make sure you are on the correct side of the street to be in the "Colonia Zona 1" (Colonia Centro) fare zone and not on the wrong side of the street and end up being charged for a trip from "Northern Hotel Zone 1" or "Colonia Zona 2" to wherever you are going. The part of the curb where most people try to pick up a cab just outside the airport (just to the west of the exit road on the airport boulevard) is actually part of "Northern Hotel Zone 1." The side of Avenida 65 in front of Diego's Tacos is part of "Colonia Zona 1."

The prices for the shuttles are posted at the airport and you pay the amount posted at the booth, not in the shuttle.

Musta took the long way.
